Who here owns a Renaultsport?

Not in a position to buy, but keeping an eye out and an unmodified version seems impossible to buy, they all seem to feature lowering springs and steel exhausts etc.

The exhaust is quote a common mod as the standard one doesn't last to long and costs double as much as an aftermarket. It'll get harder and harder to find one with a standard exhaust.

As said the exhausts on all the 1x2 models were not a great design.

The 172s had a really naff backbox design that really stressed where the pipe joins the rear of the backbox causing it to break.

I don't know exactly what but I believe the 182s also have some issues as well.

I wouldn't let a replacement exhaust put you off, especially if it's a good one.

As for springs, personally I'd avoid ones where they have just put the lowest springs on they can get, but something like a set of Eibachs isn't a bad thing.

I don't mind springs and what not, but my only concern is with insurance, unless of course I play the "I bought it second hand and wasn't told about the modifications" card.
Although I think the last time I ran an insurance test with a mod declared it only increased by £10 to £20
And for those wondering looking at phase 2 at the £2k to £2.5k max area.

I have Finmere booked on the 3rd june with MoT, should be a great day. Looking forward to testing the car on track since the suspension was put on and geo setup.

The chances of you being able to determine what springs are on a car would be pretty slim, unless they were brand new, but most are unbranded anyway.

My after market exhaust cost me £25 extra on a £770 policy, so hardly breaking the bank.

And as said, its worth looking at which specific springs have been fitted. Eibach ones are ok, but steer clear of people who have "60mm lowerin springz from 'alfords, innit".

No. They are an aftermarket wheel that has become very popular from being used in motorsport.

RS Clio wheels are the Turbines from the Valver, the gold Williams Speedlines, OZ F1s on the Phase1 172, the crappy standard 172 wheels, Turinis on the 172 Cup, BBS wheels on the 172 Phase 1 exclusive (rare as hens teeth), the 182 wheels in silver and Cup anthracite, and anthracite Turinis on the 182 Trophy. I don't know anything about the 197 and 200 wheels.

hmm, i do like the cup wheels, and the OZ ones (i think it is) on the phase 2 172's, ive still got standard alloys on mine, they aren't "too bad"

£8k to run a Clio for a year, madness.

I've run a Xsara VTS over a similar time frame and mileage (12 months/14k) and its cost me about £3.5k... INCLUDING buying the car.

Quite a difference considering the similar age, type and performance of car!

lol What?, 8K a year is that including Tax, insurrance etc?

in 2 years ive had mine, all ive spent is, tax, insurance, mot, fuel, oil + filter, 1 set of front brake pads and discs lol

The standard 172 (phase2) wheels bug the hell out of me. They were ok when the car was new, but then Renault made the 15" versions and put them on all the 1.2 models. The end result is that every Sport Clio has its own exclusive wheels... except the Phase2 172! :(

Yeah, but it was 18,000 miles in 12 months...
