Who here owns a Renaultsport?

No offence taken :D

And i have to agree, its the only downside to the car. When people ask what car i drive i often feel the need to express its not just a 1.2 clio with a loud exhaust, but unfortunately im sure that's how most people perceive it.

I get similar with my Corolla.. first they are like oh <sounds pretty boring> then they say they like it inside, because its full Leather. We set off, they ask whats wrong with it, is the engine broken? (its exceptionally loud only at 4k rpm). Then proceed to ask if it has a turbo once i get moving!

People see it as more of an old mans car than a lad car.

Yeah and if I bought a written off Elise for £3k, would that mean that was the bottom of the market for elises?

I can't understand how you fail to see that I bought a broken car that was priced accordingly.

But didn't you take great pride in telling us how you managed to fix it for considerably less than the 'going rate'?

Hang on? So the Clio was written off as well now?

I'm the same. I sound like a bell end if I say anything like "It's a RenaultSPORT Clio"

Mine has commonly become referred to as "a Clio with a dent in it".

But yeah, I totally don't get the whole 'car image' thing... Sure if your the chairman of Greenpeace don't drive a Hummer, but short of that, who cares?

Bloody plant :p

^ Very nice!! As you're only in Brighton we should meet up and do a shoot sometime, just for the lulz! :)

Why do you care what people think? I genuinelly say "renault clio" when someone asks me what I drive.

Well, I do just say "a Clio" now.

If all goes well I should have a year NCB come late august and will probably be looking at a 172. They seem to be going for around 2k, if I pick one with the belts done are there any other massive bills that are likely to occur?

I've heard about dephaser pulleys going, is there any particular mileage when this happens?
I probaly won't do that many miles in it and plan to keep it around a year, does the dephaser go gradually or simply starts sounding like a diesel clio at some point?

gearbox - heard of these going bang as well, while I won't do hard launches 10 times a day are they ok for spirited driving?
any simptoms before they go pop?

Once they get older people tend to change the dephaser with the belts. I know I did at 92k. Look for one thats had them done and you will be fine.

Massive bills other than that, no, not really. Lots of smaller bills related to owning a 9 year old (at least) French hatchback... oh yes!

My 14 month history of owning a 172:

However, I was driving 75 miles a day for 10 of those months.

Holy crap, £8k to run a clio...bearing in mind the car was bought for 1/3 of that!

is road tax that much?

No.

Its £210 or whatever it is, but my V5 has the wrong CO2 figure on it (273g/km, lol) which means I have been charged more (£245). I keep forgetting about it, then Tax renewal comes round, I'm reminded about it but its to late, so I think "ill do it before next time"... and then I forget about it again!

I just need to send a letter to the DVLA with my written confirmation from Renault of the correct CO2 figure (194).

Couple more of mine on the Eibachs
