Who here owns a Renaultsport?

Without attempting to de-rail the thread, i'm just wondering what your views are on buying a 172/182 that has already been tinkered with.

I've seen a smart one, that has a miltek cat back as the original back box fell off and lowering springs.

Would you buy a modded one or look for a standard one?

The majority of them now will probably have some form of aftermarket exhaust on due to the standard one being made out of tin foil and falling off and a full aftermarket system being way cheaper than Renault stock. Mine came with a BMC CDA and a Magnex catback (which I need to remove)

Buy mine. Standard apart from stainless stealth cat back. Mint Cup for the win ;)

You should still be able to pick up completely standard 182's. Mine has done just over 53K is an 04 plate and is still on the original exhaust, its probably got a few thousand miles left in it yet before it needs changed. As others have said though, the original Renault exhaust is so much more expensive than a stainless replacement, no-one ever puts a Renault exhaust back on. The Renault back box alone is around £100 more than a complete Milltek catback system. I believe the cat is £999 from Renault, you can pick up sport cats for around £350.

Great little cars though :)

182 Exhausts were a little better than th 172s so more likely that you'll find a standard one.

Personally as long as the springs are decent (with me being fussy that means Eibach and nothing else lol) that's fine as well :)

Need a new wheel bearing for mine but don't know which one has gone :(

In a way hope it's a rear as I could probably do with sticking some new discs on.

Wow. What have you had to buy for the 172 thats tallied uo to £3k?

Ive spent a few ££ on my 182 this month.

Aircon Regas - £50
MOT - £35
Repleacement Shock - £55
MOT Retest - £15
Full Service inc Coolant & Gearbox oil change - £250

All routine costs imo so im not to upset. Car is still prooving 100% reliable and great fun to drive

Never replace suspension components individually :( Always pairs!

^The other shock isnt very old as that had to be replaced and could only get hold of one at the time. Then i forgot about getting another one until mot fail. So their isnt much difference in them tbh

Front wishbones
3 gearboxes
full brake upgrade
2 wheel bearings

Most of the outlay was obviously for the 3 gearboxes.

If it was a 172 or 182 FF then i'd take you up on that living on my door step it would be handy.

I've been looking at 182's and most in my budget (£4500) are 2004's, but need a belt change which costs around £400.

I will stretch the budget to £5000 if I find a nice example.

I do like the stealthness of the 172 though. I have been looking for a late 172with cruise and traction control. Most around this age 03/04 have had their belts done and are going for around £4000.

Went to a local exhaust place yesterday to price up a centre section and backbox, just standard bits. They wanted £444.67 !!!

Needless to say i didnt bother.

Just bought a standard exhaust for mine through Cliosport.net should hopefully be arriving tommorow to replace the god awful Magnex twin cannon though I do like the noise of it it is a bit unsightly and looking forward to having something hidden.

May look into the KTec stealths when I get some more money.

How did you go through all those gearboxes?

Original gearbox decided to try and select 2 gears at the same time, result not a cog was left intact. 2nd one was a refurb unit which they had left the locating dowels out of [which i didnt know until after it failed] this one also took out the nearside drive shaft! 3rd one was brand new from Renault and so far is working well.
