It was 20 - 30 mph on a long flat straight with the 172 behind the vRS.

Out of curiosity, just to clarify the standard figures for the vRS are rubbish I had a go against it in my Saxo VTR. From a standstill until 3rd gear I was close but then it disappeared off into the distance.

On a slip road with a slight incline at 20 mph upto 70 mph it wasn't even a race, the vRS was gone.

Yet to test the Clio against it on the slip road but I reckon it will be close.

I know the Fabia's are quick but I was expecting the Clio to give it a pasting in all honesty.

I really like the 182's but I also like how subtle the 172 is.

The handling on all the Renaultsports is awesome. Hat's off to them.

My mate has a remapped one at around 185bhp and i'll beat it from the go on a rolling start and the gap continues to open.

I have a few basic mods too though - decat, airfilter, exhaust

Doesn't surprise me, really.

I've had a 172, a 172 Cup and an Ibiza TDi Sport 130 which, as far as I'm aware, has the same engine as the Fabia VRS.

The Seat felt every bit as quick as the standard 172 although not quite as quick as the Cup. Still, once it comes to the bends, the Clio is just on another planet.

bit surprising that. a vrs at that spec should pull away easily on a rolling with a 172, regardless of those mods.

"easily" lols, no. A car to pull away easily would need sufficient more HP.

Why? There's loads more to it, he was changing gear while I was just at the 5k powerband and it was well over from then..

By 12mph he was way behind.

many factors come into it, the main advantage of the RS here is the significant difference in torque.

I am looking for a black one, 2002 ish (facelift) (non-cup) i keep looking everyday on autotrader, piston heads and ebay for one, im trying to get one under 60K budget of £3000

Hmmm always strikes me as odd on piston heads when people dont give their name, might be worth a look but be very wary as tbh it seems too cheap imo.

yeah i think its too cheap, but i expect a few scratches at that price, if its cheap to do up, 47K miles it be cheap!
