Who here owns a Renaultsport?

I am most likely going to view/buy a 182 at the weekend it seems quite a bargain, but I am wondering what things to look out for on a test drive and other things I should be looking for on the car, it has had its Cambelt/Aux changed last year and done 66k miles but its up for 3.8k which I think seems like a steal.

That sounds pretty cheap!

<Really trying hard not to buy a 182>

Do you mean the standard 197 or the F1 edition in that Pistonheads ad?

I can't find anything on their website to say they came with Xenons, they have projector beams which are what the sphere things look like but are they actually xenon lamps?

with the 197 u could have xenon's on the F1 and the full fat 197... the cups couldnt have them added, full fat with cup pack could

500quid option iirc, i think they have been dropped from the 200's

Guys

Odd problem, ive recentley noticed that my car wont fully hit the limiter and stops at about 6700 RPM ... It has a rs tuner remap too so its meant to limit at 7800 (or somewhere around that figure) the car can have done a fair few miles and still hit an earlier limiter which seems odd ..

Is there some kind of protection in place which stops the car from hitting the limiter when cold ... im thinking something has gone a bit mad. On another note i noticed the other day on my 12 mile drive home from a mates (and on quite a warm evening) that the temp needle would move to just one bar / to nothing / then up to one bar again and didnt get fully warm. I swear evan on a cold day the same journey would see the temp gauge in the middle.

Whats going on im stumped ?

The car has a limit around 6700 rpm until its up to temperature. The RS Tuner limit on the 182 is raised to 7500 rpm (up from 7250), for some reason there is a map for the 172 that ups the limiter to 7800 rpm.

Dodgy thermostat ? I think it should sit bang on center or one notch down from center on the temperature gauge when fully warmed up.

My 182 was in for an MOT and service on Tuesday. True to form it failed the MOT on the OSF balljoint and faulty hazard light switch (hazard lights weren't working). It hasn't passed an MOT first time in the 3 years i've owned it. Luckily this time it wasn't all that expensive to fix for the retest. This time last year was another matter, I think around £1500 by the time i'd had the cam/aux belts and service done, the front brake disks and pads, NSF balljoint, new Milltek exhaust due to the standard exhaust being full of holes and a number of other things. I still say that these aren't particularly cheap cars to run for a small French hatchback.

Mines will be going in for an MoT in the next 4 weeks. Melchy, I agree they can be expensive cars to run sometimes. What have I had done in the past 12 months?

New rear disc's and pads (£150)
2 new tyres (£200)
Miltek exhaust fitted. (£400 fitted)
New manifold to Cat fitting (£100 with silly labour rates)
Service

Cant think if I had my Cam/Aux belts changed in the past 12 months. Anyway they were £700 (Cam kit, Aux kit & new water pump) when I did have them changed.

It quickly adds up!

If it makes you feel better, my car is currently in Uxbridge having the following done after a catastrophic engine failure:

New engine
New cam kit
New aux kit
New water pump
New clutch
Air-con regass
New fluids all round really
New spark plugs
Labour to do all of the above

:(:(:(

Many thanks I have printed that out and will give it a good read tonight.

not sure if the 182s have an engine cover as standard but if i was you i would take a tool kit and take the cover off whilst inspecting the car as it can hide a lot of leaks etc!

also if the car has an undertray (hiding the sump) i would take that off to to see if there are any hidden oil leaks as this also hides a lot too! - i kno wits not conventional when looking at cars but this will save you hassle in the long run.

also HPI is a must!

In the last 2 weeks I've had 4 new tyres (phase 1 so cheaper), new front brakes and cam/aux belts done with the full kits.

All that and it's probably being sold next weekend :p

And Sam the engine does have a lower limiter whilst it gets up to temperature. The RS tuner still keeps this safety limiter so it's probably just that. (well it does on mine with the rs tuner map on it anyway :) ).

Picked this up yesterday:D
