Who here owns a Renaultsport?

I don't have a paid for membership so I can't sell items on there. I might just have to try eBay.

I forget you are same guy i am always chatting to over xbox.

Pretty much 70% of the stuff i sell on ebay never gets their silly charges. If you want at least £300, put it up at £330 with best offer. Tell guy who gets close to the £300 mark that you'll take £300 cash outside of eBay. Never failed me.

And yes my KFC went down like a treat :)

Battery keeps going flat on the 182. Looks like the alternator is faulty and not charging the battery. Its a bit annoying as both the alternator and battery were replaced early this year, so I suspect the replacement alternator was faulty.

Few pints plus "ooo they look cheap" means I have just bought some Pure Motorsport solid top mounts.

Not really sure why, but meh.

Can you replace the top mounts without removing the whole strut? i.e. by just jacking the car up and undoing the bolt so they drop down? With the weather being cold and mank I wan't to reduce the amount of time I spend faffing about under my car as much as possible.

Also, do I need alignment redone after changing top mounts? I don't think they are adjustable, but they may knock the toe/camber out that would need adjusting elsewhere to compensate?

Yep, undo the top nut, jack the car, swap top mount, drop back down. Can be a pain to line up the shock with the hole exactly. You also want a short spring or it won't give enough/any space. If both mounts have no offset then you won't need alignment, best to have it checked out anyway whenever you do suspension work.
Honestly though, I have pillow ball top mounts all round and can't notice a difference to other cars which don't, but a similar setup otherwise. Obviously the adjustable front camber and caster is a huge bonus, but otherwise the only difference I can tell is increased noise from the brakes making it into the cabin.

My standard mounts are 10 years and 120,000 miles old, so I'm hoping for at least a small improvement.

I've got Sportline springs so there should be room to just drop them out and replace them without removing the shock then.

I getting them fitted and then alignment done before my track day might be a squeeze, so I might hold off and do them after.

Rear shocks as easy as it seems to change?

I understand there is a 16mm bolt at the top and 18mm bolt at the bottom.

Anything need swapping from old to new shocks?

Yep, easy as pie.

I think you need to retain the rubber top mount things? And the bottom bolt.

Just be wary of the springs falling out if you undo both at the same time.

Cheers. I'll have a crack at it this weekend. Won't lift the car up and do one side at a time. Springs should be ok then...

If it's only toe that can be adjusted then string it and do it yourself if you can't get to the alignment shop on time. Had to do this myself before, did take it to the shop and it was bang on. Did the camber by eye and that was dead on too, clearly I spend too much time eye-balling the wheels.

I just fitted the PMS top mounts to my car last Wednesday, I'd be very surprised if you could fit them without removing the strut as you need to undo the 17mm retaining nut on the top of the strut and remove the rubber part and thrust bearing that aren't used any more.

I've noticed a much improved turn in and mid corner stability, probably mainly due to my old mounts being long past it.

Not a hard job, probably 2 hours all in, a little scary drilling the strut tops though, make sure you have a nice sharp 8.5mm drill bit (screwfix have them about £3 each).

Skeeter, unless you are planning on getting the strut brace too, i would sell the PMS top mounts on and get AST ones. The only real benefit of the PMS top mounts is the strut brace package, its what makes them so good. The AST's offer far better adjust-ability.

£80 vs £240 though. I'm not looking for uber performance, I'm just changing old worn parts with something better, for as cheap as I can. The difference between the two would pay for a track day! The standard Renault parts would cost more than I paid for the Pures.

ABS light is back on again!

Looks like its a sensor. I can neither afford to, or have the time to replace it before my track day. I have a feeling its going to ruin the day :(
