Who here owns a Renaultsport?

How bad are the wheels? Your advert makes it sound like they are really bad and need refurbing immediately.

Maybe add some pics and mention they are scuffed/slighty kerbed/knackered/ covered in brake dust etc

From the pics thet look ok but have rusty pad material in the corners. have you tried Iron X on them?

Why does my advert make them sound really bad out of interest? My "would benefit from a refurb" comment was due to the back of the spokes bubbling slightly (I assume from caliper heat over the years of use). IronX is great stuff but no I dont have any currently :D

Same here... I've never had any luck trying to sell via Ebay motors (everyone is just looking for a cheap bargain ... unless very lucky). Even with cars priced sensibly. Had loads of tyre kickers and silly offers... but never sold through this medium.

I think Autotrader is a bit better myself.

Though I would agree with Relentless81, that owners club WEB sites seem to be a better bet. But you do need to pitch the price right, especially at this time of year (IE. Christmas just round the corner).

If you get desperate enough, there is always sites like webuyanycar.com ... while I know some of these sites don't have a good rep. I managed to sell our 2nd car (Skoda Fabia) through them earlier in the year and got a half sensible price (IE. in line with trade-in price).

Good luck mate.

Hmm so thats both you and Relentless81 confirming my fears that eBay is the wrong place to be selling, damn. I could have saved myself a month of time If Id have come to that conclusion sooner!

Has anyone changed the rear brakes themselves?

I beleive the pistons are 'twist' in, rather than push in? So no need for a clamp? Also need a 175nm on the bolt?

Nobody happens to have the guide kicking about do they?

Yeah the piston screws in. I got a caliper block to use on a ratchet as they can get a bit stiff once they get old.

Hub nut is 172nm or there abouts. If your changing the disks make sure you keep the little spacer behind the disk, and the thick washer infront behind the nut.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their advice/help so far. I listed it on PH on Friday and had 3 people contact me, 2 wanted to view but its ended up selling to the first viewing today less than 2 days later.

So lesson learned, PH is a much better (and cheaper) place to sell your car than eBay!

Good news :)

But the more important thing is... what are you replacing it with?

Cheers, bought new ones of these anyway just in case.

Costing more than just taking it to a garage, by the time I've bought the tools. But shall hopefully lead me to doing more myself. Looking at the guide, it's a total rip off how much a garage would cost to do.

I've been in love with my mum's car forever and it's finally come up that I could buy it, so I jumped on it.

77k, cambelt, waterpump and dephaser done earlier this year, wheels freshly refurbed and the bonnet painted (had a dent on it. Standard apart from the tints, which have been on it since before she got it and I don't really like but I often have the back seats down with my wakeboard in the boot so they'll probably stay.

Super happy, terrible picture but the only one I've got where it's clean.

Hi everyone.

Have a '12 white Clio 200 Cup, had it 2.5yrs which is a long time for me! It was circa 2001 the last time i had a car this long! (106GTi).

Looks like i might be selling up though as i need 5 seats. :(

Not advertised it yet though, its only done sub 13k miles.

just posting in here to ask what are the Megane 2.0T 225's like
Looking at selling my ST220 over the next few months and had my heart set on mainly a FOCUS ST or MAZDA 3 MPS but 2006 Focus's are still going at between 5.5 to 6k so why can i get a 2006 Megane for 3.9k ?
this one is even remapped to 270bhp

Now my mechanic who has been in the game for 30yrs has always told me to avoid Renault, Pug, Fiat, Citroen like the plague but what are they like to own? does much break on them?

All makes have there faults, I've had my 225 for 14 months now and it's been faultless. Anything over 5 years or 72k miles check the cam belt and aux belts have been changed. Maps totally transform the car with effortless low down torque :D
They have a low kerb weight which is a big plus :D

My friend has a 55 plate, its a good car for the money I feel. It doesn't feel very solid, the sunroof is annoying as hell when it's icey. My old 2001 S3 was far more solid and lots less rattles. I think he's had it just over three years and other than wear and tear items it's been very reliable.

They feel very fast for the claimed HP and I wasn't pulling much away on him when I should have almost 100hp more in mine! My friend has ragged his from cold most days and I do wonder why it hasn't blown up yet :p.

If it's anything like my Clio, the Renaultsport bits are great (engine, suspension, etc) while all the standard Renault bits are... very French. The electronics are comical and a lot of the interior and build quality are of shopping car standard.

But they are cheap because of it, and even though I have treated mine like poo for the last 5 years it's still going strong and won't break, no matter how hard I try.
