I'm in the market for a 172 at the moment, budget between £2250-£2750ish what do people think of the phase 1 compared to the phase 2?
I do prefer the looks of the phase 2, but I'm thinking of having a look at this phase 1 I have found. It seems to tick all the boxes at a decent price, can I ask for people's opinions on this:

Well after an expensive weekend i'm finally back up and running.
2 new tyres £180
4 new springs £140
MOT and labour £250
I feel like i've been hammered, but i always think of ScarySquirrel and count myself lucky!
Been advised my rear shocks are on the rusty side so more expense next month.....

ive just ordered some brembo hc discs, ds2500 pads and hel braided lines, once these are fitted, the car is complete and no more potential mods unless something breaks (touch wood it dont!)

aye, read a lot about the brakes and thought why not, Auto-Nation over at cliosport forums does the best price, i payed £200 delivered for the discs, pads and braided lines, no one else can touch this price!
i had a remap using RStuner, and it is pretty good, you can grab a used rstuner from cliosport forum for sale section for about £100 then you need to buy an unlock code from fastchip so you can use it on your car for about £45, then once remapped resell the rstuner for what you payed for, so for £45 you got a nice remap
your not going to gain huge amounts with it tbh, it just smooths the power delivery throughout the rev range instead of at 5k, but you can feel the difference instantly.
ive not read about the other maps you can get from ktec/jms and the other places, but to get the most out of it you need to be running matched inlets, decat etc, so more £££.

It cost about £230 (including a pre and post dyno-run) and gained about 11hp. Smooths out the power delivery at around 3k as there was a noticeable dip.
Just got my Phase 2 172 back recently after it made a full out assault on my wallet.
New Cam belt, Aux belt and Dephaser pully, and a new retrimmed steering wheel of a guy on ClioSport (highly recomended, btw) means im a good £750 lighter this month.
And it doesnt stop there. Ive decided the Accellera Budget tyres that the previous owner oh so kindly fitted just before buying it have to go now, so theres £300 more.
Owning a RS Clio isnt cheap....
For reference, I paid £2800 for an 02 plate Phase 2 with 82k on it.
New Cam belt, Aux belt and Dephaser pully, and a new retrimmed steering wheel of a guy on ClioSport (highly recomended, btw) means im a good £750 lighter this month.

Pictures dont do it justice, its great. Ive got a grey leather centre band in the top of mine too to match the silver stitching.

He doesnt supply an airbag, you use your current one (the leather doesnt quite match as the airbag is covered in that plasticy imitation leather rubbish, which goes a bit shiny, but I dont care).
Really simple to change. disconnect the battery and leave it for a while so the car is completely dead and the airbag wont go off in your face. Unclip the Airbag from the wheel (flat head screwdriver on the metal clips on the back of the wheel), unplug the 2 wires connecting the airbag and remove. Unplug the horn wire. Unbolt the T50 Torx bolt in the middle, and pull, taking care not to smack yourself in the teeth.
Swap wheel and refit. Once id left the car for 30 mins with the battery diconnected the whole change took me 5 mins.
I had mine done by a friend and 2 years on it was still looking like new, although this is on a phase 1 wheel (they still melt but no thumb grips to worry about).
