Who here owns a Renaultsport?

When I brought my 182 a few weeks back the steering wheel was mint, no melt what so ever. Having not read up properly on the cause I didn't really know what caused it and figured it was just a dodgey batch of wheels.

2 different occasions and either side has began to melt, noticably, so will be getting the steering wheel refurb in the near future. In the mean time a towel on the wheel when it's parked in the sun will have to do!

Just got my Phase 2 172 back recently after it made a full out assault on my wallet.

New Cam belt, Aux belt and Dephaser pully, and a new retrimmed steering wheel of a guy on ClioSport (highly recomended, btw) means im a good £750 lighter this month.

And it doesnt stop there. Ive decided the Accellera Budget tyres that the previous owner oh so kindly fitted just before buying it have to go now, so theres £300 more.

Owning a RS Clio isnt cheap....

For reference, I paid £2800 for an 02 plate Phase 2 with 82k on it.

That seems expensive. I just paid £635 for both belts and relevant pulleys + oil service - that was from Renault main dealer too.

Mine came with those crappy Accellera tyres too. Not much cop are they?

EDIT - I fail - missed the steering wheel.

Ive seen the thread over on CS ages ago, but i didnt relise it was caused due to "heat"?
i have had my clio since may 2009 and thus far, no problems what so ever, i havent even changed the brake pads or discs yet, i cant belive mine isnt falling apart yet! lol (172 PH2)

it also happens if you wear a ring too, constantly rubbing against the grip does make it crack/wear.

I doubt that included the Dephaser since that part is £160 or so by itself.

Yep.

Cambelt kit = £140
Dephaser Pully - £140
Aux belt Kit = £120

plus £170 labour

You dont have to replace the dephaser but I decided I wanted everything done (my car is at 92k). I dont think a standard Renault service includes the dephaser.

Yeah I thought 'melt' was reffering to general wear and tear giving the effect of melting from worn leather. But it was absolutley mint when I got it, no a mark on it a month ago and I've only driven 4-500miles in it!

Rest of the wheel is fine just the areas level with the thumb grips have been effected. Obviously the positioning of the wheel when parked will dictate slightly where it melts as to how the sun hits it. Thumb grips are still mint though.

I was quite shocked Renault didn't do anything about it tbh.

Just thought I'd show you guys my newest purchase :D

Standard Clio 172! (apologies if the pics are too big, if so I'll resize them again)

Hope you like it, I certainly do! :D

Yeah it's a fantastic colour, I gave it a wash this morning and it seemed to have a very slight blue tint (maybe it was just me) looks great though.

Need to get a new drivers side fog light as it's smashed (wasn't helped by me prodding it) :p going to get some NGK spark plugs, K&N air filter, some Bosch wiper blades and an oil change very soon. Apart from that I can't really do much else tuning wise because of my Insurance :( but being honest, it's plenty fast enough at the moment, future upgrades will probably consist of a single exit back box and maybe an induction kit of some form :) and even further down the line some Speedline Turinis :)

i would get some silvervision bulbs to replace the front orange indicator ones, cheap but very effective mod in terms of looks.

sign up over at cliosport forums mate :) lots of info and upgrade ideas

Yeah one of my friends suggested replacing those bulbs so that'll be on my list too, the side indicators were already done on mine when I bought it so saved me a job :) I'm going to get some Renault F1 Team stickers to put on the front edge of the bonnet, seen a few on Cliosport and I thought it looked really good :)

I've signed up to Cliosport but not as a paying member, will signing up fully give me access to anything important?
