The problem with taking a car off the road is it bunches everything together. Tax, Insurance and MOT (which requires new rear pads, among other things) all due in the next few weeks :(.

Just going to put this in here, and ask you huys what you think this is ?

Driving a 2002 Clio sport, brakes works fine at speed, but when I reach say 10 MPH or less, seems like ABS has kicked in, it happens about 98% of the time

what could the problem be?

Thanks

So after two and a half years i finally got a replace bonnet for £30, not bad mind, plus about 15-20 quid in fuel on the 140 mile round trip.

Now , its on 137k miles, had the aux belt done about 3,000 ago(not due until about 150k), really wish I had the cambelt done at the time too as i'm getting a weird metallic whir between 2500-3000rpm whilst the car hasn't fully warmed up.

Initially I thought it was something as simple as a loose bit of tape flapping around on the drive shaft, but upon closer inspection seems to come from cambelt area, it is a sign that the dephaser is on its way out?

The aux belt cost £230(only £72 where parts) so I'm really not going to get much change from £500 am I for dephaser, cambelt, water pump. Though at least i'll know it'll be sorted for the remaining life of the car.

But I just cant come to justify spending not far off £600 for a care that's probably only worth £1300-1400 quid at the most! Confused :(

*Edit* Also to add to the mix, I want to do the wishbones and balljoints and thats another £133, plus maybe steering rack mounts another £30-40! Am I mad for justifying these costs? It is fun to drive though now it doesn't have a deer shaped hole in the bonnet!

Well. I regret buying the 172 that i got last sunday... Heater Matrix blocked, Dephaser is noisy so there's around £500 in repairs alone there. Not to mention the fact the hot water never makes it too the radiator so the fan doesn't come on and the car gets HOT in traffic...

I bought it from a dealer though so i am well within my right to reject the car based on a garages report.
Have told them of my issues and they are going to call me tomorrow to discuss where to go from here, if i get a wiff of anything that makes me feel they dont want to pay for the repairs i will wing off a rejection letter and go buy a cheap 1.2L Diesel. :(

Find a 172 from a private seller with proof of a decent belts and dephaser change. Dealers are always going to just bung these out as soon as they can without really caring about their condition as they are nothing more than an old cheap Renault to them.

Kinda stuck with this I think.
Hopefully the dealer sorts the issues

Anyone got much experience with the Pilot Sport 3's? I've ordered a couple to replace the fronts as the front left is getting to legal limit (damn roundabouts!)

Mine has always had Michelins for its entire life, originally the Pilot Exalto and now the Pilot Sport 3. I've done about 14,000miles on the PS3 and still think they're great :).

Yep same here - good tyre imo.

Mine have been rotated, so from new about 4k on the rears then switched to the front and have so far done 12k on them. Currently on 3mm tread and they certainly do not get an easy life.

Hey guys, it's been a while since I last posted but I'm back and I ended up getting the 172 cup I mentioned earlier in the thread.

It turned out to have a fair few problems, belts were fine although the dephaser was knackered and the timing was out by a country mile, along with brakes and shocks being shot.

Anyway after all that's been sorted I'm coming up to a years ownership and I love the car just as much as the day I bought it and still smile every time I drive it.

Here's some pics from the day I picked it up through to how it stands today.

Sorry for the mass of pictures and thanks for reading but that sums it up, stripped and soon to be caged, and boost one day in the hopefully not too distant future.
