Who here owns a Subaru?

 My Dad's has done >20mpg once in 2 years, I've only averaged 20 long term average since I bought the MX5, and a quick bit of fag packet maths works my current tank out at around 16.5

Unless my calculations are off, 306 miles, 46 litres to full = 30.2mpg

I don't think I ever got under 29MPG in the WRX but then I probably do more motorway miles than most people do in these cars. I'm not dawdling along at 56mph either. I do my fair share of town driving too.

Just have to live with it I guess :D

So i was driving from our co-location back to work earlier today and heard a pop as i was driving but thought nothing of it as i couldn't see or feel a change in the car. However as i neared work i noticed it was getting hotter that I've noticed it get before but not hitting the max. So i pull up in the car park, turn the engine off, pop the bonnet and I'm met with a splattered engine bay. (Bubbling in the hotter places of the engine) :(

It appears the radiator may have taken a knock as inside the front splitter it looks as if its kind of squirted out from the radiator onto the inside of the bumper. The coolant level has also dropped quite low so I'm pretty sure that's the issue. With that in mind how much will a blob eye WRX STi radiator cost me roughly? Along with the removal/installation of course. I'm hoping my mechanic doesn't have to remove loads of car to get to it as the engine bays are pretty toight for space. :D

I think their fairly inexpensive not that i've ever needed one, could always get a decent one from a breaker on scoobynet. If its anything like the classic they look quite nice and easy to replace from when i did a full coolant flush on mine.

Radiator should set you back around £100 AFAIK.

The Impreza engine bay is very deceiving... there's actually loads of room in there once you've removed a few bits. A radiator swap is very simple, probably about an hour's work to replace and refill/bleed with coolant if he knows what he's doing.

Cheers guys. I'll let you know how i get on. I'm pretty sure this is all because me and the wife were contemplating selling it on yesterday... :( Its like they know! Haha! :D

They definitely do!

I'd done 25,000 fault free miles in my WRX, when as soon as I started thinking about putting it up for sale, it springs an oil leak from a braided line.

Thankfully, it was a simple fix but too much of a coincidence for my liking :D

Maybe its a sign that i should just keep it?:D:cool:

So after topping up the coolant and limping it to my mechanics house round the corner i also realised i forgot to mention the AC had stopped working too. When you press the button the light comes on but you don't hear anything change in the engine bay as before. Usually you'd get a click and you'd hear the engine note change as the AC kicked in.

So that may have gone too... Still, i'll let you all know how it gets on. :)

Yes, aircon condenser sits at the front, with the radiator behind. They can be removed separately.

I've just fitted some black mesh to the lower front bumper to offer some protection to the condenser as it's looking a little battered.

So £170 later we have a new rad and the aircon re-gassed. Not sure why the aircon stopped working at the time but it still works today after being filled yesterday so it must be fine. It was also much colder than before.

So it appears that my time of Subaru ownership is coming to an end. :( I shall miss it but babies, wife on maternity/not going back to work as its not financially viable and a failed boiler and gas pipe that needed replacing have brought ownership to an end as the money tied up in the Subaru needs releasing. Plus i only live a mile from work so i should use my lazy legs anyway. Can i post a link to the FB post of the for sale advert?
