Who here owns a Subaru?

Truro? Newcastle upon Tyne!

But yeah, I hadn't looked at the warranty page, maybe i'll check with a few locals about the dealer as well as the car itself given what you just highlighted!

Yeah, sorry, the Autotrader ad said xxx from a Truro postcode, so assumed you lived there.

The EJ25 engine is not as solid as the previous years 2.0 EJ20 engine - suffers from piston ring failure, plenty on Google about it that can explain better than I can!

Cheers Kosta, it's awesome. I'm well chuffed with it!

Give me chance though, only picked it up last night :p

Exactly like my old one, good choice :p

Yours was one of the ones I looked at last year. Crystal Grey (as its called) wasn't my first choice of colour but it's definitely growing on me. I think it works well with the gold wheels, slightly understated compared to a blue or black car.

My WRX was on 97k when I sold it and the engine was perfect. Absolutely no piston slap, knocking, banging or smoke.

Look after it, service it regularly, use decent fuel and they'll be pretty damn reliable.

Mine was just over 80k when i sold it (2.0 UK STi) and it was sweet as a nut, started instantly no piston slap. It made 352bhp with the owner after me when he had it mapped. As long as they've been looked after they seem to be fine.

50k is nothing on the EJ20, WRX or STi.

EJ25, rebuild for sure. Made with cheese piston rings. All of them. Once forged/rebuilt they're alright for 450bhp though.

How much did you pay for that if you don't mind me asking looks great btw.
What do you mean by decent fuel, tesco or shell??

One Vision, I paid just over £8000 for this. You can find early STi's for around 6 but anything less than that for a newage and I'd walk away (unless you can be sure it's not been abused).

Personally, I stick to V-Power but that's due to me believing that it has magical cleaning agents that other 'premium' fuels don't have. I have dismantled engines that have been ran on V-Power for thousands of miles and there was very little carbon build up compared to an engine ran on standard fuel, hence my preference.

My car has been mapped for V-Power but any 98 ron fuel would be fine.

Kaeo, UK car. The fog light covers were stolen some time ago so the previous owner fitted fog lights instead.

Cheers Edd :)

Did anything come of that grey 2 door?

I didn't go. :o

I kept quiet as I didn't want a Mal X style public argument with myself over the justification of it :) I did inform them and if I have to import directly I doubt I'd use anyone else.

It's something I want to do but my "plan" as it were financially was to wait one more year whilst I clear a debt. I'd seen the Type R and with the prices going up I was thinking if I buy now I'd save a bit. Anyway, talked it over with the GF and she saw right through my man maths (they have such a nak with these things ;) ) and I should stick to the plan.

I will get something eventually - I even cleared the space in the garage! I'm working on the basis I could either dump £10K in a pension or buy a Type R and see which one appreciates faster - least the Type R will give me enjoyment along the way :)

Ok thanks for the info, what do you mean your car has been mapped for V-power? How many miles has your Subaru got?

Vpower/BP Ultimate etc are higher octane fuels.

A higher octane fuel is more resistant to pre-ignition (also known as knock or detonation), because of this it allows the car to be mapped with more ignition advance giving increases in power/torque. The downside is that a car mapped for higher octane fuel has can destroy an engine quite quickly if lower octane fuels is used (More so during high ambient temperatures)
