Who here owns a Subaru?

It nearly did. But what put me off more was the struggle to find a clean blobeye that wasn't way overpriced or even a way overpriced one that was actually clean haha.

I've got funds for the rebuild waiting lol.

A remap or managing to get subaru to update the map does lower the risk I believe as that was one of the issues that was never quite admitted by Subaru!.. And driving it properly of course! None of this 6th gear 30mph business :D

From the research I did a while back there's a lean spot at the top end on the original map which either causes them to detonate or creates high combustion temperatures that causes the piston ring gap to close up followed by them finding the quickest route to escape via the ring lands on the piston

That was what I was told by a mapper a while ago. It only affects the two out of the three maps as well - I think it's the economy map which is fine but I can't remember. If you either a) get it remapped, or b) stay below about 6000rpm, then you should be fine. And the whole point of the 2.5 litre was that best torque was at the low end of the rev range. I plan to get a hatch at some point, but finances are against it at the moment.

Oddly the stock 07 EDM STI map I had a very quick look at earlier in RomRaider definitely had commanded AFRs very much on the rich side of safety (10.4:1)

Car had a service in January but decided to get another one done at SC with their best oil. Along with the rear diff oil done. They reckon who ever changed the last diff oil wouldnt of used LS oil which would probably cause the noise i was getting on first use.

Got it booked in for a underside clean and waxoil aswell. Its ready for one. Got to wait for a dry day to take it up.

Anyone clued up regarding remaps?

I had a new engine put in my WRX, and the guy who done it put a map on the car (Launch control / pops & bangs)

Problem is i don't trust the guy who mapped it (Hes ****ed me around, car has some boost issues - and i've no idea what software etc was used)

How hard would it be for a garage to Remap a ECU thats already been mapped?

Hope this makes some sort of sense :)

Agree with above too about Andy Forest, mapped my Impreza both times with great results.
Surprised you haven't heard of him already being from his neck of the woods.

Scooby is still making that annoying noise. Had windows down this time and i can hear a slight scrape aswell, so im reckoning maybe its not the diff but something else? It is definitely coming from the rear though and does sound centred.

The noise will last a few minutes if i stay at a slow speed and then completely disappear, or if i go above 40mph it will completely disappear.

From 15seconds onwards you will be able to hear it if you turn up the volume.

Any ideas before i have to take it back into SC?

That's very loud...

Driveshaft? Centre diff? Rear diff? I have no idea... checked all your wheel nuts are tight etc? Could even be a nut on the driveshaft?

Definitely rotational. Brake binding?

It only does it for the first couple of minutes from a cold start, also still makes the noise when touching the brakes too. Brake binding appears after you have gave it some heavy-ish braking doesn't it?

Though i do know the car had new disks and pads all around along with new tyres just before i bought it?

Which one if the most expensive? It'll be that one.

Yeah i check the nuts straight away as that is what kept popping up on google. Nut on the drive shaft? Would that quiet down after a few minutes or continue to make the noise? I think my best bet is to get it off the floor so i can have a proper listen to where the noise is coming from. Ive had mrs rolling down my road in neutral whilst i do a fast walk next to it trying to listen out for it but exhaust noise buggers that up lol.

Anything that warms up and expands has the possibility to make noise when cold and not when warm. Loose things included.

Worth checking either way, but look at your CV boots, check the oil levels etc... I imagine Clinic will probably know what it is almost instantly if most of those things come back clean.

I know the centre diff is more prone to go on DCCD cars, but no idea if it sounds like that.
