Who here owns a Subaru?

Just watched some YouTube videos of DCCD transmission issues and it's a grinding sound they seemingly make when the rear bearing fails, not loud knocking...

As long as it's coming from the rear, it's not the gearbox. The rest is pretty cheap to replace!

It does seem odd, almost as though it stops as components heat up and expand. Can you have someone sit in the back and try to locate which side of the car the noise is coming from?

Strange noise that. Checked rear tyres for any weird objects stuck in them? Obv just to rule out something silly.

Thanks all for the replies, a lot of stuff to check out. Think ill just get SC to look at it as ill never get time to get under it properly.

Someone has mentiomed else where about if have ripped the mud flaps off recently and i have, about 5 times when reversing up my drive lol. But cant see how that could damage anything as the tyre is in the way for anything to get knocked when working it out in my head? Bugger nose.

So, i decided to bugger this afternoons job off as im too impatient and want to get to the bottom of the noise:

Im very wet....

No noise is coming from the diff, infact there is no noise at all. Do you think i can rule out the diff now or do you think the noise would only come when the weight is back on the ground?

Going to have a good check around everything else under there in a minute. Could do with taking the wheels off but i dont have a locking wheel nut key...

The noise is that of when something is getting hit. You would think mud-flap hitting the tyre or something else which is coming into contact but it's just a speculation. I'd let SC take care of it and not stress too much.

Nothing i could see that looked like it had took a bashing or scraping. Took the mudflaps off and put it back on the ground.

Will leave it for SC to look at it as a mechanic off a subaru site said the diff wont make any noise whilst in the air. Only way to know is to open the diff box up and look inside. Waste of money having the diff oil swapped the other day if that is the case lol.

Lookin good agw!

I shouldnt be posting this yet as ill just jinx my self but i took it out late last night and no noise and this morning no noise. Only thing i did was remove the mudflaps and bend the metal the bracket fits to back into place.

Still cannot see how that could cause a knock on the back end for the first 2-3minutes of driving from a cold start. But ill take it for time being lol

Fingers crossed.

Well that sounds promising. On the video it sounded like something is hitting something else at a certain point on wheel rotation. Take it to SC anyway for them to check?

Had the belts changed this afternoon, was getting a bit squeely. They also knocked off my locking wheel nuts whilst they was at it and tightened up a heat shield around where the turbo is.

Anyone here got Rota's on? Thoughts?

How loud is 105db? What does it compare to? Looking at trackdays but the absaloute limit is 105db.

My car has a straight through exhaust with a afterburner back box. Is that likely to be over 105db?

Put it in for prodrive rear ARB, new droplinks at both ends, refurbed summer wheels and tyres back on and a new end cap for one of the roof rails that has been broken since I got it.

Then I'll probably put it up for sale...

Probably. The ban is mainly aimed at straight through exhausts, so it's unlikely that yours would pass. 105dB is VERY loud, but it's measured fairly close I think.
