Who here owns a Subaru?

Quite liked my EBC Blues on the old STi. Yellows were like cheese, ruined them completely on its first visit to Curborough and the blues lasted the lifetime of the car thereafter.

I found the Blues stopped ok...ish but i kept getting really bad pad deposits from them causing tones of judder, had to take the disks off at least once to emery cloth the imprint of the pad off. Did a few track days and a trip round the 'ring with them so they wore well i just couldn't get on with them. The CL5+ were in a different league by comparison but they are quite noisy at low speed which could annoy some people.

So EBC Blues or RC5s. What about Performance Friction, or the Godspeed Kevlar range?

@Phil W, I think mine tends to blend in to normality being silver and pretty quiet. I think my ZT gets more attention. I know of 2 other silver widetracks though so perhaps I should have got a unique blue one instead! :D

The noise issue will be sorted in the coming months. Did you fit your exhaust?

Me? Yeah, Ninja 2. Sounds good. Turbo back with no resonators. I'll try and get a video. Still have a little voice in the back of my head whispering 'NUR Spec' though :D

Trying to decide on suspension options. Replacement springs that are slightly lower or all new coilovers  I like the ride as it as at the moment so don't want to spoil it at all.

Sorry, yes I meant you :) I've decided I'm going Nur Spec. Ported manifolds, Harvey up-pipe if I can find one, into a Nur Spec R. Kosta seemed to get good results with his and I'm all for doing the little mods (such as porting) to get the most out of an engine.

Do your shocks knock? How long do you plan to keep the car and how often do you use it? I replaced my standard setup for a (used, but good condition) Eibach Pro/KYB SR setup earlier in the year. It's a bit lower, but not too much to cause any problems over speedbumps. However, 3 months off the road and I have rear shock knock again. Coilovers are supposed to eradicate the issue completely.

Replaced the alternator belt, which was easier than I thought. Belt had snapped completely, only noticed when the power steering dissapeared :o

Took it out for a run to see if all was ok, then discovered that when the belt snapped it must have nicked the top radiator pipe, so that was fun getting back home in a cloud of steam :( waiting for delivery of some Samco replacements now.

Alternator/PAS belts are an absolute doddle on these... even the cambelt is pretty straight forward. Once you remove the radiator, there's loads of room to get your hands in there.

Unlucky on the pipe though. Have you gone for a full set of replacement hoses?

Yeah the attention a scooby gets is pretty mental, every petrol station visit ends up with someone asking me questions about the car. Something else i have noticed is how many other Subaru drivers will stop next to you to chat etc, n the scooby wave...

Anyway, how do i go about getting the above pads? Might get them in before the Monday.

The Scooby wave is the done thing. I wave to people all the time. Had a couple of people chat at petrol stations, one guy in particular had a really clean EP3 Type R and took a real interest in the car.

Subaru ownership is pretty special tbh.

Don't know where you've seen pads for £500 Ryan. Godspeed have them all for around £150. If you get them in time for Curborough, we can fit them on the day. I've not ordered mine yet!

Bugger nose what i was looking at then.

Just watching Youtube videos of them and not sure if i could cope with the low speed squeal. You bringing all the tools?:D

I used the same pads in my sti coupe, The noise was embarassing to the point where I'd use the handbrake to slow down in town... kids cover their ears and everything when you stop. Great stopping power though!

lol

Haha, well I'll let you buy them first and I'll make my decision after :D

Yep lol, jack/stands/sockets/bars etc.. the usual (that I have rolling around in my boot)

No just the top and bottom ones.

The Godspeed Kevlar pads are really nice on the road but don't last on track at all, as in they'll completely disintegrate to bare metal within 30 minutes, ask me how i know :o

How do you know?

Lapping Anglesey circuit, the brakes were fading a bit but not too bad then braking into the last corner before the start finish straight and there was a loud bang followed by no stopping power and a loud scraping sound. Limped into the pits and the pads were completely gone and just the backing plate left. Was an interesting drive back home that evening.. Tbf my own fault for using road pads on the track.

Fitted hoses to the foz, what a pita that was. spent the day fretting about it, and ended up getting soaked in the rain putting the plastic tray on. But its not peeing coolant and seems to work after a couple of quick runs.

Washed and hoovered the car today in preparation for Monday. Also got the logging in Ecuexplorer working so I can collect data when out on the circuit.

Noticed my rear pads are now at the wear markers so they're making a lovely squeal. Is there any point in fitting high performance pads on the rear or should I use a half decent Brembo pad for a third of the cost?

Pretty sure it showed Acme as the last poster in this thread. Was thinking "God, please no!"

I forgot to buy some pads. Might reserve some brembos at the Cannock store just incase. Skipping the RC5+ as i cannot be doing with squeeky brakes, i would only get rid after a week of having them.

Haha, less of the insults please.

Yeah I'll have to buy some soon. I need discs and pads all round... And cambelt, water pump and thermostat... Along with new coolant. Going to take a chunk out of my house deposit so been putting it off for as long as I realistically can lol
