Who here owns a Subaru?

It's a sad reflection on old Scoobs that you get a better deal breaking them than selling them. If I ever got rid of mine I'd probably do the same.

It really is. You can either struggle to sell it as a whole, or make your money breaking it and then just deal with the left over rubbish!

Wow, I was actually thinking today if you were going to sell/break your car.

Sometimes the sensible head is the best option. Great car you have, and you must have really enjoyed the ownership, but to get somewhere else in life, one must make sacrifices. Good luck to you.

Thanks. Not an easy choice to make, but I've had long enough to think about it and realistically it's the best way to go for now. I'll be back no doubt :)

Cheers guys - glad I could inspire someone :D

I keep looking at it with this face at the moment:

I keep asking myself "have I made the right decision?"

I'll get over it...

Still managed to muddle my brain up a good few times though :D Came pretty close to doing a Mr Gill too

Forgot to ask, the chirps are you still run with no bov/recirc? Or it that just how the Hks sounds?

lol at Mr Gill moment... it did aquaplane but it kept going straight (and still accelerating haha) :D

Chirps are all coming from the turbo inlet as I have no bov/recirc it's completely blanked off! :D

The WRX will be the better buy. Why are you going to want to buy the old technology in the STi? EJ25, not direct injected, WRX has a 6 speed now too, although with no DCCD. Yet again Subaru make a mistake.

This car should have the new DIT 2.0 with a bigger twin scroll turbo and 340bhp minimum.

What a shame. Glad the pricing looks to be good though.

I won't go into details as I don't want to get banned on here for advertising lol.

But depends which ones you want dude, the advert is on Scoobynet, just bumped it. I don't think I saved your number else I would have messaged you. Have a look, let me know if you're still interested and we can discuss :)

They're alright. Any particular reason you are drawn to one?

I believe the WRX-S was meant to be quite good.

2.5 warnings as ever apply, check for coolant usage etc. could have head gasket issues (although the WRX issues are a lot less than the STi) - apart from that they're generally quite reliable cars.

Again not a lot goes wrong with them.

Common areas of rust are the rear arches and the front "U brace" frame which is a crash aid to help lower the engine in a frontal impact.

Engines, if looked after don't have any common signs of wear. Maybe a bit of piston slap on cold start up, so ensure to hear from cold start.

Calipers can seize the odd piston on the front 4 pots, but not often on the newages.

Ensure that the gearbox oils and diff oils have been changed and not making any funny noises - although they are a more noisey transmission than some are used to.

Clutch, a not too expensive item to replace, but still worth ensuring that the clutch isn't hard, doesn't stink too much doing manoeuvres such as reversing, 3 point turns etc.

Generally, drive a few to get a feel for how they should feel, as on the whole, very reliable cars.

I'd agree and disagree with you there Meridian.

That example seems cheap IMO. Maybe not massively so, but still cheap. However, you are right that many believe their cars are worth much more than they really area.

But... people are seemingly willing to pay these higher prices for decent cars. I know I would be as there are just too many bad examples around.
