Who here owns a Subaru?

You're right that video is hard to tell. It's probably because he camera can't quite handle the noise of the Blitz. The Cobra is a very clean sound, but it is very quiet. Watch my ScoobyShoutOut videos and you'll see, you can barely hear the Cobra.

It's what I will be fitting on the car for Donnington also.

Cobra can be very loud, my 3" system (full decat non resonated) is almost too much for daily driving. No video will give the true feeling of bass and letterbox rattling when I take it out in the morning to work (or if the wife borrows it).
Pointless video all the same :)

Right, just bought another set of 18" 114.3PCD 8.5J Speedlines from someone else so fingers crossed this goes ok. Bought them without tyres for £400, they need a refurb but was planning on doing that anyway.

Now the question is, what tyres to I put on them? I'll go for some 245/40/18 rubber, but am option to suggestions as for what to go for.

I have previously used Eagle F1's which I thought were ok, currently have Yokohama Parada Spec 2s

Bit of a bump for this thread - looks like we'll (relatively, after Chrimbo) shortly need 2 cars and I'd like to spend £6k on both (which is what i'll be left with after selling the civic and adding some savings).

She'll just need a little city car so will probably pick up something along the lines of a C1 or maybe yaris etc for £3kish. That'll leave me with £3-3.5k and the only real requirements i'll have are that the car will need to be dog friendly and pretty much standard (I don't mind an exhaust that doesn't annoy the world at idle).

I'm having a think about a few cars but the one that float my boat the most (at the moment) is a bug/blobeye WRX wagon. Do we think the budget is enough for a good example of either? By good I mean well looked after and mechanically sound if not perfect - I'm also slightly concerned about the apparent rust issue, is this confined only to the bug?

I still need to drive one, have only ever driven a hawkeye STI so may be a bit disappointed but the figures certainly make the wrx look like it'll be decent enough fun, plus I can't afford an STI and the Mrs needs to be able to drive it which after checking out insurance would raise the cost massively. Will do a bit of reading on Scoobynet but other than the model specific stuff I've bought a lot of cars and am reasonably mechanically minded so i'm happy that i'll know a good one from something that's hiding issues.

That's what I thought, there seem to be plenty around ranging from circa £2.5 up to £4k+ so i'd think i'd be able to find a decent enough car. Don't think i'd map it, at least not initially - had a look and admiral want a fair old increase in premium relative to a standard car for a remap (which is odd because with the civic it's next to no increase) wheras exhaust etc makes little difference. Insurance on a multicar policy is coming out hilariously low though, about £450 for me @ 28 with 5 yrs ncb and the boss added who's 25.

Any idea if the slightly later car suffers the same rust issues?

Hmm, i've read a lot about (and seen some pics of) the bug having some subframe rust issues as well as a couple of other water traps - not really a big deal as it's easy enough to jack the car up and check, only seems to be people with bugeyes that write about it whereas I didn't think the blob was all that different (if any)

Ive decided that im going to have my scooby remapped, going to have the Ecutek thing done.

Thing is i am undecided weather or not to put a performance back box on the car pre the map.

So my question is :

Will i gain a few more Bhp with a newer back box, over my Prodrive backbox??

All views welcome plz :)

Thankyou for that scoobydoo69 :) as always very precise and prompt with your replies, just 1 more question if you dont mind.

If i choose to have the remap completed without the back box, then decide i want a backbox on later, would i require a remap ??

Thanks in advance ;)

You're welcome sir!

Zero point in getting a remap for anything after the downpipe if I'm honest. You may see some small gains, but pointless really.

So yeah, get a remap and then a back box if you so wish :)

Who are you having map it then?
