Who here owns a Subaru?

Throwing a 3 door hatch about at 60mph sometimes feel more fun than throwing this big lug around at x-mph.

Still need a lot of getting used to :)

Hi mate, just wanted to comment on this and your mention of wanting to sell your car after ownership for such a short time. Was in the same situation myself albeit with a Hawk Eye WRX wagon coming from a classic AWD Turbo & 3 door mark 5 RS2000, I felt the newer scooby cornering was just not up to scratch in comparison.

Turns out that the drop links are plastic (on the WRX at least) which makes the steering less responsive/sluggish also the car will feel more plated with uprated roll bars.

I ended up getting solid drop rings all round, uprated roll bars, lowering springs, anti lift kit and a proper geometry setup. From what I've read elsewhere just the drop links, roll bars and geometry settings will transform the handling.

Without these mods I would have sold the car, I bought the car from new and the mods were fitted at 5k miles and I'm at 50k now.

Well, I cant believe Im saying this after just over a week and a half ownership... Im going to sell up. Ive always wanted to own one and adore the look and sound, but Im not gelling with her. Such a shame.

I need the log book first (4-6 weeks maybe?)

Right now I dont even know what I want?

Nissan 350Z?
Honda FN2 Type-R? (Previously owned an EP3)
Honda DC5 Type-R?
VW MK5 R32 (Owned for only a few month and sold, but strangely attracted back)

The common thing shared - all N/A cars which are relatively small. Im wondering if thats what Im missing, that high revving, linnear power perhaps?

...and Kosta - never expected you to consider selling, you bored buddy? Ever owned a V6? Loved the sound of that on my R32. Was quite a heavy slow car but somehow still felt fun on quick blasts. Then as a daily driver was comfortable....

...jesus why did I sell it!! lol

You definitely need to give it more of a chance. It takes more confidence that you think to really lean on an Impreza. Confidence comes in buckets with a bit of time and a few suspension mods.

I'm far from bored. In fact I just think I would like something different, but then I think of the cars and the running costs associated with something different, then I drive the Subaru hard and remember why I've kept it this long!

I have to agree with gurdas on this, £s for performance there isnt anything that can rival the scoob, evos command a higher price, performance benefits are not justified imo.

I really am enjoying my scoob, the power delivery is superb, mines has has a open source remap, so the torque pulls me along nicely from as low as 2700rpm.

I have completed 2400+ miles since the beginning of august, just looking forward to some dry weather lol

Scoobydoo69 i can understand why you would consider selling, my view is you will regret it unless you get that ultimate car for yourself (mine being r35) i sold my 550bhp cossie, literally just after having GT30, WON NITROS OXIDE kit, £3500 swedish gearkit, do i regret it?? YES!!

Hence my return to the next best affordable performance vehicle. S U B A R U.

But you are the only person who can make that decision :)

R35 is on the wish list, and is doable - but it requires a bit of finance. Realistically I would rather put the money in a second property than another car though. I'm thinking about a Classic V3 STi. Something about them appeals to me.

Is there any harm in buying a second hand walbro 255 fuel pump?

No harm, no. But why bother, they're not exactly expensive?

:D The snow is coming down hard now, and I have the Scooby with me at work. :D

Obligatory snow pic from last night!

i have a little question about alloy wheels etc, if anybody can answer my question plz.

My scoob is a 2003 STI Type UK, i take it my PCD = 100 x 5 as quoted by the site below

http://www.wheelfitment.net/subaru

I all ready have a set of 18" alloys on the car. However if i wanted to change these alloys, would i have to look at alloys that are 100 pcd x5, or would 114 pcd x 5 alloys fit?

Or is the 114 pcd limited to the later STIs as stated in the link ??

Well currently i have Team Dynamics motorsport PRO 1.2 18" wheels. I was looking at some speedline turinis that were on ebay for a starting price of £300. However they are off of a hawkeye STI, with the PCD @ 114 pcd, i wont be bidding lol.

I will probably refurb mine and get then pained.

Was potentially after something a bit more subaru original.

I keep learning about the car everyday though :)

Well, shes gone guys.

Someone made an 8 hour trip to come get her from Aberdeen in the snow, ice and sleet. My ebay advert had over 50 watchers and 1080 views. I've had a phenomenal interest - it was the best car selling experience Ive ever had, in the sense there was no anxiety about it not selling (or selling it for a silly price). I made £500 profit on her which was nice :D

Thank you for everyone's help and support, particularly Kostas and Gurdas :)

I'll be going back to a little 3dr hot hatch, either another MK5 R32 or FN2 Type-R. Hopefully the R32, funds permitting.

Blimey, didn't last long at all did it? Went very quickly! Did you have many viewings or did the first viewer buy? Great that you made a profit! Shame that you didn't gel with it :(

I've never sold a car so fast. I had 50+ watchers and 1100+ viewings on eBay. I had people making relatively high offers (plus stupid ones of course) without even seeing the car and wanting to send deposits. I'd took a deposit with a few hours of it going live. They really are in demand at the moment, which I know all to well myself when I was waiting...and waiting...and waiting.

Sounds like a great experience then! Fair play. Hope you get what you're looking for next time!

Insurance quotes are still coming in at £2k, which is just stupid.

Who you all with?

Admiral win every time for me. Multicar.

I have been with Admiral in the past but they don't do replacement mods etc so wanted someone who would insure my mods and do stuff like trackday cover so i'm with greenlight who came in a bit cheaper than admiral for me but with a lower excess, mods covered and trackday insurance.

Also George - If you don't mind me asking what did you get for your scooby in the end, what millage was it etc?
