Who here owns a Subaru?

Had 2 of them, both brand new

a 2000/X bugeye in WRC Blue and a 2004 STi blobeye in Black, both superb but they make nothing to interest me any more

Think I've narrowed down what to swap the Honda for, between a 2005+ STi or an E46 M3.

If you see this Rotty as you've owned both what are your thoughts? :)

Doing about 350 miles a week in whatever I get, with most of that on the very gentle run to work on easy going low speed roads for the most part (i.e. sitting at 50/60).

Also plan is to only have the car for 6 months or so, decisions decisions...

...

It's not even close, the M3 is quicker, more comfortable, better equipped and about 4mpg better on fuel

I also found insurance cheaper on the M3, servicing will be higher though

Handling wise it is personal preference but again I preferred the balanced feel of the M3 over the understeer of the STi

I'm swaying more towards the M3, but still like the idea of an STi :)

And the mileage is largely done over 2 trips (torquay > portsmouth and back using the coast road), I've been doing it in an S2000 most of the year :)

very nice scooby there G4ORCE.

On another note on my road to getting a Scooby, what's the reliability and parts costs like compared to an Audi or vw of a similar age looking at a bugeye. Labour isn't an issue as I'm a plant mechanic.

Alistair.

I've found parts to be nice and cheap for my scooby so far, only thing i've had break on me is 1 wheel bearing and the OEM struts started knocking so was a good excuse to go for coilovers!

My scoob has been very reliable. I've had no issues with it, I just drive it and fill it. I think they're very reliable with mine being a N/A no turbo to go pop.

I've had some thoughts (believe it or not) about selling up lately. No idea why, as I can't begin to think what I'd replace it with!

Evo? I thought you were a scoob fanatic. I'd go Evo, or some sort of S/RS Audi.

You could always go, Honda.

Well, I cant believe Im saying this after just over a week and a half ownership... Im going to sell up. Ive always wanted to own one and adore the look and sound, but Im not gelling with her. Such a shame.

I need the log book first (4-6 weeks maybe?)

Right now I dont even know what I want?

Nissan 350Z?
Honda FN2 Type-R? (Previously owned an EP3)
Honda DC5 Type-R?
VW MK5 R32 (Owned for only a few month and sold, but strangely attracted back)

The common thing shared - all N/A cars which are relatively small. Im wondering if thats what Im missing, that high revving, linnear power perhaps?

...and Kosta - never expected you to consider selling, you bored buddy? Ever owned a V6? Loved the sound of that on my R32. Was quite a heavy slow car but somehow still felt fun on quick blasts. Then as a daily driver was comfortable....

...jesus why did I sell it!! lol

What you mean not gelling with?

I actually felt the same even if mine is a Non-Turbo, I'm sure I would have more fun with a Turbo model. I just miss that rag-ability and throwing it into the corners like I did with my previous car. Yes the 4WD planted feel is nice, although mine does seem to understeer when I really push it, even if I'm not going at LOLMPH.

You can't judge anything with 10 days of ownership mostly in the wet!

I didn't get on with mine at first as i came from a DC5 but after a bit of time i've really grown to love it and no way could i go back to a DC5 now. Get some proper driving time under your belt and give yourself atleast a few months before you write it off!

Wtf?! I am absolutely addicted to my Scoob, I love the drama, the noise, the acceleration. It's one of the quickest point to point cars you can buy for sensible money, I'm struggling to think why you'd not enjoy it. Give it a while at least!

I have to agree with gurdas on this, £s for performance there isnt anything that can rival the scoob, evos command a higher price, performance benefits are not justified imo.

I really am enjoying my scoob, the power delivery is superb, mines has has a open source remap, so the torque pulls me along nicely from as low as 2700rpm.

I have completed 2400+ miles since the beginning of august, just looking forward to some dry weather lol

Scoobydoo69 i can understand why you would consider selling, my view is you will regret it unless you get that ultimate car for yourself (mine being r35) i sold my 550bhp cossie, literally just after having GT30, WON NITROS OXIDE kit, £3500 swedish gearkit, do i regret it?? YES!!

Hence my return to the next best affordable performance vehicle. S U B A R U.

But you are the only person who can make that decision :)
