Who here owns a Subaru?

Hey guys some great looking scoobys on here im just looking into getting my first! im looking at getting an impreza gx due to insurance reasons.
I was wondering what i should look out for when buying one, looking at about £2000 so either a bug eye saloon or a blob eye estate, but im not realy a fan of the estate. also im told they feel slugish but this is coming from someone who had a classic wrx sti, but whats it going to be like compared to my 1.7dti astra van?, haha

I'd probably think it'd feel about the same performance wise as a 1.7 astra.

With only about 120bhp, a not a light car and an AWD system to sap even more power its not exactly going to set your hair on fire :p

Well start getting handy otherwise this car will cost you a lot of money to play with!

A thousand times this! :D

I just changed my rear top mounts on my coilovers, took maybe 3 hours all in including a test drive after. I'm sure that'd have cost me a fair bit at a garage.

Same with disks and pads, if you start doing track days it'd cost you a fortune in fitting costs if you can't do it yourself :P

Not worth it, just save up and buy a WRX. Running costs are around the same, and it's slow. You could get a bugeye for around £2000. It would be harder for you to shift the GX when you come to sell too.

Finally guys, here are some (poor) shots. I've just picked her up from the painters today, who also fitted the front lip for me. It's grim and wet up here so the photos don't do her justice;

Next on the list is;

  • Ninja2 Exhaust (aye Gurdas?)
  • Swap Alloys (aye Gurdas? lol)
  • Detango Fronts

I'm still contemplating if I like her fully debadged or whether to get some Subaru Technica stickers back on the doors and fog covers. It was something I would have done myself but the previous owner already had, now I'm not so sure.

Then ideally;

  • BC Coilovers
  • Remap

That looks sexy! Looks like mine!

Exciting times, definitely get the stickers for the fogs and also the door trim.

Detango is easy, and if I were you, get some halfords black satin spray and spray the chrome parts too.

The exhaust and the rims have your name on it, exhaust will be sent out asap and the rims you'll have in the new year.

The thing thats striking me most is, it does still feel like a large 4 door saloon and in one respect I'm missing my little 3 door hot hatches I've grown so accustomed to.

Throwing a 3 door hatch about at 60mph sometimes feel more fun than throwing this big lug around at x-mph.

Still need a lot of getting used to :)

I had a Fiesta ST with eibach springs on, which i could chuck around quite well LOL

When i first got my scoob, i was quite nervous abut chucking it about in corners etc due to the size, however you will get used to it, my scoob is running the stock suspension setup, and tbh im quite suprised how durable it is, 3 mths on im driving it into corners just like i did the ST.

You will get used to it, you just need to put some miles under your belt :)
