Who here owns a Subaru?

I'm in the same head scratching situation, blob eye sti insurance for me 2500, yet an Evo is 1500. A WRX PPP is 1500 as well. I'm just dreaming at the moment as I'm rather ill lol

and yes I do live in a **** area, can't much insurance below 800ish for any decent car :S

Let's be honest, you don't want your car to sound like a Subaru. It's the noise of a very inefficient exhaust manifold design, one of silly length too.

I do, few people will want the ultimate max performance of equal length headers over the sound of an unequal length headed Subaru flat 4 tbh.

At 7k it's almost a choir :)

My 80,000 mile 1995 UK Classic with a few upgrades :)

Insurance for me with 2 years NCB (thanks to company car and a vandalism claim) £500 a year mods declared. (yeah it really is that shiny at 17 years old)

Question: Is it worth paying a premium for the 2005 Blob STI with DCCD, wide-track and revised dashboard? The 2005 Blobs are similar if not as expensive as the 2006+ Hawkeye STIs.

Question II: I've been left with the impression that the 2.0 block gives a better rush of acceleration than the 2.5? By rush, I don't mean real world 0-60, I mean back of your seat jerkiness and enjoyment? I've driven the 2.5 STI and thought it felt a little linear and boring. Guess I need to try a 2.0. I was rather hoping for the jerk like you get in a VTEC.

I on my second one, first was a UK turbo 2000, after I dented that one rather badly I went a brought a Hawkeye UK STI in white, which I had for almost 4 years...doesn't time fly when you own a Impreza, not done a lot to it...most of the stickers have gone, currently spoiler-less that will change a some point..maybe..lol

I got to start thinking suspension upgrades soon...thinking coil-overs but to be honest have no real idea what to do....

hoping to get on a track again with it.....Did a track day at RAF Marham just after I got it...loads of fun.....lol

I add some pictures later.....

Reading this thread is making me sad, my Impreza's engine died at a Beford trackday last month and I miss it dearly. It's now in a pile of bits slowly being sold off to make a few quid back for me! I can't afford a performance car for the next year or two as my impreza dying has almost crippled me financially but I'm hopeful that I might get back in a newage car in a year or two. Only problem is I know how hard the modding bug bites you with these cars and I don't want to spend 80%+ of my disposable income on a car again, also if any classic owners want some bargain parts for their car get in contact with me...(hope that's OK to say here mods)

I recently joined the Scoobaru crew. I bought a '03 GX Sport, it's a nice car in terms of drivability and ride, compared to that of my previous Yaris.

It has OZ Ultraleggra 17", Cobra Exhaust system with both cats removed, but has the bullet type instead. I think they are called resonators? And a 4-1 unequal length manifold. Not sure if it's standard on this but it has the Subaru burble. I don't plan on modding it too much, probably put a WRX spoiler on the back and that's about it.

I can thoroughly recommend getting yourself a set of eibach lowering springs. The car will feel so much more composed, and it's a cheap mod. Other than that don't bother doing anything to it, and just be careful come MOT time as if it is fully decatted, it will not pass.

I was lying. I love how they sound, but I know they're not to everyone's taste however! Hence why mine is so loud :D

The 2.5 doesn't feel as exciting. Plus it's unreliable! Go look for 2005 Blob STi's with DCCD. One with the PPP or similar mods. Great car. The 2.0 revs out nicely whereas the 2.5 dies very early in the revs. Making the 2.0 much more exciting, but it does take a little while longer to come on boost.

Or find a JDM car, with your price range you should be able to find one. Much better cars than the UK model :)

Get a 2005 DCCD, all the cool kids have them ;) (i have one)

Seriously though i was in the same position and ended up with a 2.0 rather than the 2.5 as i wanted the stronger engine and more 'exciting' power delivery. Plus i much prefer the looks of the blobeye but that's very personal.

Not sure to lower the car, I actually prefer the funky high ride height. Saves me scraping it on all the bumps around my area.

I think it's fully decatted but resonated? It doesn't have straight through pipes. There's one box type near the front of the car, then one near the back, then that goes onto the back box. It does have the previous mot now I'm unsure if it was decatted after the MOT or before.

If you're going to fiddle with the suspension on a Newage, do the rear ARB before you do anything else - even the STI benefits, despite the already pretty stiff suspension. I've never understood this ridiculous obsession that some people seem to have about lowering: it's almost never going to improve handling (harsher is not the same as better), so please admit that you do it just for the (stupid) look. On Newages coilovers are really only worth the money you plan on a lot of track work. That said, there's a massive difference in ride between STIs and the WRX/Sport .

I won't say you're wrong... but I will disagree to a point. They all sit far far too high as standard, not only looking stupid, but really retracting from the feel of the car.

Prodrive/Eibach springs or similar really make a difference to how the car feels. You're right that they don't make much difference to the actually handling per say. But they are still worth the difference IMO.

You're right about the ARB though! Rear ARB is one of the best mods (need to do mine still) but I wouldn't do it before springs :D

Im Subaru mad:D
Honest i am, just ask my girlfriend, anything subaru or a hint of a burble sound and i say, oh listen i think i can hear subaru:D
Even if im on holiday, i take more pictures of cars than anthing else.
Infact im just car mad:)

Lovely gravel express there! Rare cars too! You could always fit spacers if you wanted to keep your current alloys?

Meridian.. I think we'll agree to disagree. It's roots are in rallying, but it is a road car. The Evo doesn't sit on stilts for example. Every Impreza on standard suspension that I have had a chance to drive has always felt very woolly. Add lowering springs, Eibachs or Prodrives etc and the car feels so much more fun. So long as it's not stupid low or lower than they should be for an Impreza, you make them better not worse. When you see the slammed ones (which can look great) they only look good and have compromised the handling and the point of the car being a back road machine.

But hey that's my opinion. If my car wasn't already sat on Prodrive springs when I bought it, I would have added them or similar.

Anywhooo speaking of not doing my rear ARB yet.. these arrived today:

Nice :) can you tell me exactly what I need for my rear? I presume > ARB, drop links and bushes? some links would be helpful, cheers.

You don't need bushes as they're included.

You need to get under the back of your car and check if your car has the "C" shaped drop links or the straight ones. Then you know which ARB and links to order.

I can recommend any of the following:

www.scoobyparts.co.uk - This is where I order most my little bits, and where I ordered these. Very efficient service, great guys, great prices.
www.scoobyworld.co.uk - Like above, some prices are more expensive and some are less, they don't seem to deliver as quick as Scoobyparts though.

Those are probably the easiest to order online from. But there are plenty of other suppliers who may be able to do things cheaper.

Many thanks :), going for some Prodrive suspension and an ARB when my bonus comes through, car feels planted through corners but the stilt effect you mention is definately there and my two left passenger struts have a bit of play in them so time for some upgrading :)

Also post back when you have it fitted let us know what difference it made!

Greenlight won't touch me:

Basic acceptance criteria
Ownership of the vehicle, or Performance driving experience are the key factors for covering high performance cars.

Due to the type of vehicles we cover under our preferentially rated schemes being primarily performance or modified vehicles there are some acceptance requirements to qualify for these schemes. The underwriters require all drivers to:

1) Be aged 25 or over for Turbo models (or 21+ for the sport model)

I'm 24 :)

Also the quote from Admiral for me (multicar mind you) is less than £900 a year for my STi this year. So can't complain too much. Everyone at all these companies keep telling me when I hit 25 they'll be able to beat my quotes. Doesn't help me until then though!
