Who here owns a Subaru?

Mapped yourself? Well done. Ever had it on the rollers?
for an IT manager Im happy with my progress :D

Regarding dynos, not yet, still tweaking to be honest. She out accelerates other motors verified just over the 300bhp mark so shouldn't be far off my current gearbox/turbo limited target of 320-330 horsies.
It has all been done to a budget and i couldnt justify ploughing a few £K's for the 6 speed box and forged internals on a day to dayer.
I have the strongest of the 5 speed boxes already and apart from maybe the extra gear for m/way cruising, I find the 5 speed grand with less changes when playing.

New toy...

Lowering springs
Swap Ninja exhaust for Blitz NSR
Rear diffuser
Maybe swap WR1 alloys for Speedline Turinis
Detango and black out headlights

Thanks chaps. Its a beaut, no PPP on this one but I guess I can just get it remapped how I want it, mileage is 29000 so its pretty much brand new! It's absolutely mint.

I've got a question regarding dump valve, I had one thrown in for free, its not a special one but in terms of blanking off the pipe that attaches to the standard one, do I need to blank it off with one of those aluminum plugs or can I just temporarily tape it up?

Dont fit it, best advice is to sell it on ebay. I tried one and it does affect the running (genuine forge motorsports one too, not a cheap **** or baileys one.)

Bit of a question, now I do have some car technical knowledge but this one is a bit weird. I'm pretty sure on any car the check engine light does come on when you turn the ignition key and all the lights come on the dash.

However in the Subaru it doesn't. I've checked the fuses for illumination, but all fuses are ok. Did the previous owner take the bulb out behind the dash? Or does it only come on Subaru's if there is a problem?

Looks very good. Get your mods and mapped right away :D

Blanking plug. Don't tape it as it might get sucked in!

It definitely should come on at just ignition and then turn off when you start the car.

Get the clocks out ASAP and have a look! Two screws above the clocks remove the surround, give it a tug and the clips will pop out, then you should be able to see the clock fixings. Undo, unplug and check for the bulb!

What location are you in? Maybe someone local can give you a hand or if the CEL is on check the code for you? It could well just be the CAT below efficiency raising the CEL and the guy didn't know how to solve so just yanked the light.

That's what I was thinking. I'm thinking you're right, because the car is decatted, previous owner might have decided to take out the bulb as he probably couldn't get it to clear.

Buy an elm 327 cable from tinternet, I have both a tactrix cable and an Elm cable (elm is much much cheaper but cannot be used for remapping).
The elm cable I got came with a copy of Proscan which shows you if the CEL is lit or not and can be reset.

I also had a scangauge II for a while and it can show you errors too without needing a laptop and can be left plugged in full time.

So I opened up the clocks. Managed to snap one of the white clips on the back as well. :o

Anyway, I didn't dare open up the clocks after that. There are bulbs in their bulb holders at the back of the clocks. However the top two on the right hand side where the fuel/water gauges are, aren't there. Now I'm not sure if they're for the CEL, but all the lights come on including speedo illumination lights as well as indicator illuminations on the clocks.

EDIT: The clocks have been opened at some point as one of the screws which hold them in is missing.

I'm unsure to be honest. I'll have to OBD the car just to see if it is showing a CEL. There aren't any bulbs inside the clocks is there?

EDIT: My clocks are similar with the speedo being where your MPH is/vice versa.

I get all the illuminations on the dash including the seatbelt too. :p It's just the CEL isn't showing :/.

Just had a lift home in a WRX STI Impreza.

Some numpties in a Corsa (think it had a 2lt considering how it almost kept up) overtook us and cut us up. Next set of traffic lights, two lanes, didn't even need a level start. 20ft directly behind them the scooby was past them from a standing start in the wet before they could even pull away by a foot.

They bottled too when throwing it into a roundabout (NSL) at 40/50 in the wet and I was just in shock how well it held the road, didn't even feel like it was close to losing traction.

It makes my 182 seem completely tame.

No bulbs inside the clocks as far as I'm aware!

I did always think the CEL was an LED which couldn't just be pulled though.. but either way get it checked on the OBD port.

Kristoph, they do very well in the wet, in fact that's when I tend to be more of a hooligan in mine!
However you'd be very surprised how in the dry a Clio 182 could easily keep up with a standard WRX!

It's probably possible to change the map so the CEL doesn't go on. Certainly you can do that for individual sensors, so I'm guessing that it's possible to disable all warning so the light doesn't go on. Not saying this has been done, but it's a possibility.
