Who here owns a Subaru?

I had a good chat with them, shame they've got a large barge Pole for people that haven't owned a scoob or owned a 250+bhp rwd car for 12 months.

Given I paid peanuts for insurance as a young driver compared to most paying 1800 won't be so painful. I should have another years ncb by the time I've saved enough to buy one so it should come down a little more.

I only have ever insured my STi with Admiral, was paying £2.5k for my first one when I was 22/23 and now I'm 26 and have 3 years NCB and am paying £800 a year.

I haven't looked at a quote for an STi as I'm still loathed to pay over £2k for insurance. £1800 will still be £500 more than I paid for my first years driving.

A WRX is still going to be leagues ahead in terms of performance than anything I have ever owned

Don't worry about the money, just focus on the enjoyment.

Which will all cost more than the increase in insurance premium....

There's a lot of things I still need to look into so something I need to weigh up. I'll be keeping it standard for the first year as modding is going to put the insurance through the roof. I'll see what happens after owning one for a year and go from there.

I'm shocked, they are hopeless with modified cars.

They're really not that bad. I haven't exactly done much to mine either so if the car gets scrapped I'd literally only have to replace the suspension and exhaust and I'd be back near enough to where I am.

All the specialists laughed (literally) at me being 25 with an STi in Birmingham. Despite the 5+ years ownership.

Keith Michaels have pretty much the same policy, and I'm all in favour: it keeps the premiums down for those of us who have driven 250+bhp cars for a year or more. It's a just a more granulated version of lower premiums for older drivers.

I'm not knocking then for doing it by any means, if that's the stipulation for being able to offer the prices they can then I'm more than happy to pay a slightly inflated price with Admiral for a year to recieve the benefit of being able to insure through a specialist.

In fact it gives people like myself the chance to prove that just because we're young driving something powerful we in actual fact aren't going to drive like a nob.

I got my scoob when i was 24 and was only able to insure via a specalist as we'd had 2 MX5's and i'd owned a 220bhp honda integra before so was classed as 'experienced with power & RWD' or something along those lines.

Keith Michaels insured me when I was 22 and got my hawkeye WRX for £1300 with 2 NCB. Then the year later they introduced a "25 or over" policy unless you were an existing customer so I was lucky. How do you prove you can drive a powerful car when you're not even given a chance to insure one? I got the original quote cause I had an RX8 before that

3 years later and I'm with greenlight now. £680 and like-for-like mods.

STI Type-R £870
STI £990
Evo 456 GSR £870

All through Admiral multicar quotes. Greenlight will be able to quote me from Jan 26th next year (turn 25) so hopefully they can beat the above. Guy on the phone seemed to think ill get a good quote due to my past and present cars.

Not really swaying to any side yet, think it will be more of the case if i can find one that i really like, ill buy it.

Mrs Approves anyway on either.

Greenlight won't touch you on an EVO till you are 28.

Quote redone with an extra years Ncb as I should have another buy the time money is ready to buy one.

£1600 for a blob sti.

Pretty sure they told me 28, might have been Chris Knott though.

Out of the specialists I tried A Plan we're the only one that we're actually helpful even if I don't fit the criteria for then to be able to insure me.

Just read online about 3 men dying in a crash in a scoob. They were racing an astra apparently. Dirty bit of road is that on A406, used to be on my commute and you can easily clock treble figures on there. Sad times.
