How on earth do people amass so much money? I am really struggling to build my money up, got about 300k I think, but seems to take me ages to do it.

I've not played for a while but tried it again when I heard good things about "Heists" - trouble is I need a "high end apartment" to host a heist (I'm sick to death of joining other peoples, waiting in the lobby for ages just for the host to quit!
)I'm level 18 and have got a small apartment, a couple of cars and about $100k in the bank but it seems to be taking an age to build up my cash to be able to afford a better apartment!?!?
Play random Contact missions on hard if you want to build up money, sell a gang car or at least a baller every 48 minutes in between missions.
Heists pay ok if you're with a good team (better if you do them all in order with the same crew for 2 million bonus at the end), if not contact missions pay better for the time spent as they are all easy.
Play the 250k Criminal Records Challenges when they appear, normally after each patch, Rockstar drop them back to 15k max after a while each time.

They were/are to a certain degree, but the percentage they increased was glitched and then fixed in a patch.
That was the steps to do it, R* fixed it in a patch.
I had 400 dollars, then I blew it in a strip joint, no ragrets!

Thanks! By gang car, do you mean any random car that is lying around after you hold off a gang attack? Also, how do you take on a Criminal Records Challenge?

Since the Heist's update only the Gang cars and Sentinals still spawn regularly, the Sandking's spawn near the army base now by the petrol station.
You have to wait for people to make the challenges, check for them after each update.

OK just got GTA5, not really played any of the online stuff but if anyone wants to team up add me! Hoping the heists are as fun as Ive heard - something I can just jump straight in?!?
Really not got a clue how to make money - started to replay the SP as forgot how good it was (never finished it)

Quite a few new buildings and more detail on others(Branding and what not), gas cylinders popping up near bridge by the ports.

Do you know where on the map these are located ?

Not exactly no, but if you jump in a helicopter you will find them(all online by the way) if you fly to the ports you will see the big gas cylinders and what not, there is a new building by the airport and some new signs on old buildings with some extras added.
