Who owns a Golf GTD / GTI / R?

Trying to get a handle on what options were available for the 7.5. I take it it's not as simple as three concrete trim levels.

Has anyone got a decent source I could peruse over? It's surprisingly difficult to find.
 
Would anyone care to share their thoughts on this?

I like the spec but it has three previous owners at 3 years and 23k miles. Something to be weary of or common these days? It seems like a lot for it's age.

First one has a good few quid's worth of options - Voice control, Pro nav, Dynaudio and 19's - may have been an ex-demo or dealership management car.... you need to look at the v5 if you are really interested as the dealer may have registered it as first owner.
Second one seems ok but is a totally std car - zero options (barring paint)

Std paint for mk7.5 was the purpley black colour -solid red and white were the cheapest options then the metallics and then pearls.
 
Is the Nav Pro any different on the mk7.5's? I know that on the mk7 it meant you got an 8'' screen over the smaller 6'', but as far as I can see all of the face lifted cars have the 8'' as standard. Is there more to know on that?

e - Second car has gone already, oh well. And nav-pro has a 9.2'' display, google is wonderful!

It's all touch-screen though as it has no physical knobs or buttons. Bit of a pain on the move and fingerprint central, but that appears to be the way VAG is going..

Had nav-pro in my old 7.5 gti and found it much better than the std nav in the loan car I had when it was delayed 2 months.
The issue of no buttons in partly resolved by the voice control though - it's actually pretty good at understanding your voice.
 
Picked up a late 2016 Golf GTI in standard spec a few weeks ago, I'm impressed by it on the whole, but feel it lacks the character of my old Clio 197.

Sure - it's faster, more comfortable, more economical, more practical and more refined than my old Clio, but none of this equates to a better experience in my opinion - it's almost too perfect!

Maybe it's just a classic case of buyers remorse, or maybe this is what getting old feels like.
 
Did you factor in the 'experience' to be better when you decided on the Golf ? Sounds like you are trying to find faults with it .... yeah there are loads of faults with the Mk7 but having / finding that character in something new is going to be tricky.
 
Battery died on my Mk7 GTi a few weeks ago (my fault).
Replaced it... whole world of problems.
Recoded the battery with OBD11 but getting a mass amount of errors on the DASH.
It's as if it's in limp mode for a minute or so and unable to change gear on the paddles...
VW wont look at it because it's not a genuine VW battery (rubbish!) so it's off to a independent specialist but cant fit it in for another two weeks...

The technology and engineering now is almost too good. More grip, more electronics, more noise insulation, more refinement, safer- but none of that really leads to more fun. You really want the opposite of those things in some ways, which is why the likes of the MX5 is so appealing.

Harshness and problems have largely been engineered out of cars now, even in basic models. This is only going to continue with electric propulsion and increased autonomy. There will always be a market for driver's cars though...for now.

I replaced mine with the AGM battery and coded with OBDEleven. Have you tried disconnecting it for half an hour then starting again. You do get the Christmas tree but it should disappear after a short drive. Did you do a scan?
 
I got a EFB type battery in my R at the moment. , but I have had it connected to a solar trickle charger whilst it is parked up at home through all this. Seems to start up no issues. Bit mindful as it is coming up to 4 years old now. Considered changing it come service time in Sept.

I heard AGM are the better battery , so it is a case of getting an AGM like the Varta Silver Dynamic AGM and getting Carista / VagCOM / ODB11 to program it and job done ?

Yup did a scan.. load so of usual voltage errors from no battery.. ABS light is on constantly now.
It's too much of a coincidence that everything has started showing errors when the battery was changed.
Going to try it again tomorrow and see how it goes.

It should be yes but in my case obviously not! :(
 
5k for the Edition 30. Wheels need a refurb which is going to set you back a few hundred quid. If you can get it a little cheaper then great as it'll mean you can get a remap for roughly the same money as advertised.

8k for the Pirelli edition if you really wanted one. Seems a bit much for a Mk5 but unsure on the limited edition adding to the price? Seems a very good example considering the body condition and interior condition. Stage 2 remap will be a welcome power increase too.

So back to this.... I found out that the two rear ABS sensors were not giving a reading (checked with OBD11).
Car went to a local specialist last week and they confirmed that the ABS sensors were dead... THe reason for the mass amount of errors was that the ECU was unable to reset teh ABS sesnsors since the battery change, it's most likely that the sensors were dead when I changed the battery. Still an odd occurence but heyho.
2 new ABS sensors and £240 later and she's back to running sweetly...
