Who owns a Golf GTD / GTI / R?

I've got in touch with VW via Twitter - See if anything comes from that.

I also asked and paid for them to top up my coolant yet it still remains on minimum? I queried this and was told it has definitely been topped up. (It's not moved from the Minimum line since I bought it)

Another annoying niggle I have noticed is that when my wipers are on intermittent there is an electrical relay type noise every time they engage and disengage, didn't make that noise on my Golf or previous household MK6 Polo... 1 thing at a time for now!

Question for Mk6 GTI owners:

- Changed the front discs and pads, put on the Brembo offering from Euro Car Parts. Braking is now quite...wooden, under normal driving conditions there isn't a lot of feel. If I stamp on them hard then absolutely no issues with stopping, however this is only during exceptional circumstances.

Can anyone recommend a decent set of pads, OEM or otherwise, that'll offer a decent amount of braking feel day to day?

TIA

Unfortunately that seems to be the case with the Brembo set ups from ECP. Try EBC or Vagbremtechnic (discs) + Freodo pads next time.

Get some braided lines fitted, too. That'll make a decent difference in terms of brake feel.

Hi, thanks for your response. After a few more thousand miles they seem to have improved a touch, however noted for next time, thanks. Braided lines will be fitted if I need to replace a line, I think.

Does anyone ever use the “Eco” mode? Mainly on DSG models.

Recently used it on a long journey, the coasting really helped with economy but engaged back in gear down hills and under braking for engine breaking.

Can’t help that think it must cause quite a lot of extra wear and tear on the gearbox though.

It won’t get used much really but thought it quite intelligently did what it’s meant too, seems to get a fair bit of hate online!

I only use Eco on the motorway if using cruise control. It cuts the coasting and uses engine baking in cruise control and if you touch the brakes going downhill other than that is will not cut the coasting.

I don't use it any other time as I hate how it weights the car up if your cornering and apply the throttle.

I used to do 1000 miles a week (95% non motorway) in my GTD and used Eco all the time.
Once I got used to it I left the car in it. If I ever needed a bit more urgency I'd flip it into sport. Then back to eco when I was cruising again.

No yet, it's on until the end of the month. But I've still got about 9 months of warranty myself... Would love a tune though, and a bit more exhaust noise.

Have you considered an exhaust? Maybe that would scratch the itch.

Remapping would be an easier decision with no warranty remaining.

I have been toying with the idea of an induction kit purely for the noise, done my research but seems they get a fair bit of negativity and again, cars under warranty.

REVO doing a black Friday sale. Tempted...

If you plan to go stage 1 and no further at all then go Revo as long as it's cheaper than other maps - IMO if you intend to tune 'higher' then look elsewhere.

My 2p is that there are always tuners better than Revo - I'm talking about petrol engines out there.....

I've had a few Revo maps and they are just "ok" IMO, nothing special.

What car do you have, year/engine/gearbox?

Thanks for that, I have looked at other companies too, AMC Performance seems well regarded too and is another on my list.

2016 Mk7 GTI with DSG.

Personally I'd recommend R-Tech. Unbeatable in terms of drivability, knowledge and peace of mind. Custom map, too, not just a flash. I'm running 363hp (Stage2+) but in a MK6 ED35. Unless it's raining it grips for days.

Catback (+ maybe a sports cat) and intake and it'll be a totally diffferent car.

To Golf R mk7-7.5 owners. If you have a puff of blue smoke on cold start. There is a TSB for it that came out on the 17-10-22. If you’re under warranty ensure they adhere to it as it’s to do with the valve stem seals.

Is there a recall for this?

On the subject of recalls, my 2018 mk7.5 went in for the DSG software recall... I ended up with a brand new gearbox. All covered under the recall thankfully.

Not a recall. It’s a TSB. I doubt they’d recall, as it’s probably a very expensive job replacing VSS.

The gearbox update you got was the 34k1 service campaign. It’s to determine if the aux pump is damaged in the box. Mine had it and I’m probably one of the rare ones, that hasn’t had any issues…yet.

Yep, software update went on - I told them to make sure they take it for a good test drive and ensure they gearbox oil temp is up to temperature (it won’t report this fault otherwise). Of course they claimed they had, I collected the car and 20 minutes later I get the ‘gearbox error’ warning. My car has a tracker, so checked their ‘test drive’ - literally half a mile up and down the road.

In any case, gearbox stripped down and there wasn’t much aux pump left, pretty much destroyed.
