Who owns a Golf GTD / GTI / R?

So I don’t see why an induction kit would cause any sensor issues, presuming it’s installed correctly. As long as there’s good airflow then there’s nothing for a sensor to get upset about.

In terms of warranty from VW - giving them any excuse to void a warranty is probably not a good idea. The could, for example, claim that the air box/filter is a critical component of the engine, so anything related to that could be voided.

If it were me, I wouldn’t be risking it for the sake of some induction noise. Wait until the warranty is up and then go full stage 1 or stage 2 if that’s what you want to do. You should also consider that you’ll need to declare any modifications to your insurance company - is it worth your premium increasing (or you potentially having to find a different insurer) for the sake of some induction noise?

Not worth it in my opinion.

With the modification declared my premium remains the same which I did check.

You are talking a lot of sense in regards to warranty especially as even with nothing to dispute they can be difficult doing any warranty work.

However I suppose on that front it could always be bolted on and bolted off prior to a visit to the dealer however that is certainly effort I could do with out for as you said the sake of some induction noise!

But think I’m more leaning to leaving it for now.

I'm always tempted by a Golf R, as I do miss the shorter wheelbase of a hatch, and I feel like the yellow helps it not look chavvy

What's the spec on it?

Pretty standard, DSG, standard wheels I think (not black prets), DCC. Think it's pretty bog standard tbh, but has everything I want except for a reversing cam and heated steering wheel.

Receiving a myriad of electrical errors on cold starts in my 17 GTI at the moment, EPC, start-stop disabled, adaptive cruise disabled and in to limp mode when accelerating up to 30mph

The problem goes away after engine warms up and turning on/off, wondering if this is caused by an aging battery? Its on a Banner battery which google suggests is OEM and would now be 6 years old

Booked in for major service at dealer in a month and explained this over the phone when booking and they didnt seem too concerned, but its becoming irritating

When I had my Mk7.5 GTD - Cold weather it would crank sloppily and upon starting would show errors like yours now despite Halfords checking the battery and it reading "Good" I plugged in an OBD Reader and noticed the voltages when attempting to start fell through the floor, new battery and all was well.

Edit: I changed out the EFB to an AGM (If you ask the Dealer they will tell you to only replace with EFB as that's what there script says)

Yep certainly sounds like a bad battery.

I replaced mine (Banner EFB) late last year with a Bosch AGM as my dash cam kept shutting down in parking mode due to low voltage. No such issues with the Bosch.

You can do it yourself, just need to change the serial number via something like OBD11 to let the car know its a new one, it will then 'forget' the old battery and relearn with the new one.

Guide there explaining.

Had a blast in a stage 2 golf R yesterday whoooah was loving it but value my license

The thing about stage 2 which shocked me was how fast and how much torque comes in at such low RPM, coming from a Stage 2+ 8P S3.

Originally Gassed on YouTube recently did a drag race video, stage 3 6R, Stage 2 7.5R and a stage 1 8R - interesting viewing if you haven't seen it.

Thanks a lot guys! I'll probably stick with EFB as I've not got an OBD11 reader to update with
So I installed a brand new Bosch EFB battery and the errors persist.. will await VWs diagnosis when it’s in for service later this month. In the meantime I might try and get the AA out to plug it in at least, VW in my experience avoid diagnosing intermittent electrical issues

Wheel speed sensors? I've had 3 fail on my Mk7 GTI. Managed to diagnose myself using an OBDeleven dongle connected to my phone showing the 4 wheel speeds, and you could see one of the rear wheel speed sensors sporadically drop to zero and back again when driving, which would trigger all of the ABS/ACC/EPB/start-stop etc. Turn it off, and back on again and it'd be fine until the sensor sent a zero signal again. Was about 20/30 for the part and fitted it myself, just unplug the old one and plug the new one back in. Plenty of youtube vids showing it I think.

Quick update on my ongoing issues.. I called out VW roadside assistance last week who plugged in the OBD11 and read code P00AF which relates to the wastegate actuator arm sticking. Googling this appears to align with my error lights so I called up my local dealer to report and brought the scheduled major service forward to today so they can look at it asap.

Received a call this afternoon stating 'no errors found' from investigation. To which I've replied that I find this very strange as it occurs every time I drive the car from cold for the last month. Requested they keep the car for further attempts at diagnostics next week but my experience so far with this dealer is lets say, not good. Fingers crossed they can get their act together, certainly feels like they're trying to fob warranty claims off. The car to me is very broken if it goes in to limp mode every time I drive it so I'm at a loss if they hand this back to me without any action

Had the same intermittent P00AF code a couple of months ago (2014 GTI) always from cold start, had no boost and needed to stop turn off and restart the engine to get boost. Depending on the age of the turbo some older ones are not serviceable. I had to have a new Turbo fitted to fix the issue.
