It's that just for the R? I've got a 65 plate GTI-PP DSG , haven't heard anything.
My R is a 310 model and I haven't had a recall.
That's really strange hearing your experience with the DSG. I've usually heard nothing but praise from them. I've never used one myself so can't really say for sure.Currently considering a 3 door R or an S3 at the moment.
max budget 20k so they tend to be a bit leggy with todays prices.
Seeing an S3 w/ 50k miles at £18k that was for sale two years ago with 4k miles for £21k is really depressing thoughOnly spec I'm really chasing is dynaudio/ Bang & Olufson speaker package and leather seats (sorry the cloth R seats don't do it for me)
I find it weird that Golf R's with zero options seem to be priced higher than a comparable and usually newer S3 which starts off with more spec as it is??
Having driven a 9k mile 18 plate R I'm not keen on the dsg. Don't know if it had issues but it was jumping between gears when going round a small roundabout and then took genuinely about 2-3 seconds to pick a gear when planting the throttle going from 50 onto a motorway. really disconcerting. I'd rather a modern ZF auto than deal with that.
Any thoughts on options to avoid/look for or pro's/cons for either? I know they essentially extremely similar but any advice would be appreciated
That said I'm coming from a ropey old Mk5 GT TDI 170 that's slowly dying while rusting everywhere so i guess anything would be an improvement.

Make sure it’s actually a Golf R and not an R-Line trim Golf. But it’s probably listed wrong.Bit of a noobie question. I'm seeing Golf R mk7.5 being listed as" Bluemotion Tech" and others without. What's the difference? Or is that simply listing the car incorrectly?
It's just advert platforms picking up the 'full' name.Make sure it’s actually a Golf R and not an R-Line trim Golf. But it’s probably listed wrong.

Exactly this. I tend to drive my R in manual mode when it requires any spirited driving. For those rare situations where you need to plant the throttle to get out of trouble there is going to be a short delay to drop down multiple gears. Sometimes feels like old skool turbo lag.DSG boxes will always have a pause if you cause it to attempt a shift to a gear that isn't preselected, more so if that gear is on the same shaft as the current gear, as it will have to disengage the clutch, switch gears and then re-engage which can take about a second.
Planting the throttle so that you hit kickdown is a surefire way to achieve this. It's less apparent in S than D because it'll likely be in a lower gear and not need to 'block shift' so often.
Fundamentally though, a traditional auto will have the advantage in these multi gear change scenarios.
I’d get that checked out, mine doesn’t behave like that.Sorry I missed some of the detail I had knocked it into sport and also upon selecting a gear it proceeded to headbutt the limiter and take a further bit of time to go up to the next gear. It was like it had gotten completely confused. I was genuinely expecting a warning light to come on it was that bad.
On the roundabout it was jumping between 2nd and third repeatedly while I was holding a steady speed/ throttle input.
Also parallel parking on a hill is not very pleasant with it. I'd have said the old SMG gearboxes on e46 M3's felt more convincing. Though perhaps i just tried a bad one?
I'm not trying to deliberately bash them I'm just surprised given how much people raved about them when my experience was that the only good thing was their 0-60 party trick.
Ah thought so, cheers. Was thinking maybe it was like a factory spec or something lol. It's just advert platforms picking up the 'full' name.
So I don’t see why an induction kit would cause any sensor issues, presuming it’s installed correctly. As long as there’s good airflow then there’s nothing for a sensor to get upset about.Has anyone got an induction kit on their GTI/R’s etc.. If so any issues or concerns to be aware of…. Can they cause Turbo issues, MAF sensors issues?
I currently have my car booked in for a MST Performance Induction Kit (Complete Heat Shield Box with lid around the filter) with subject to change as I am undecided.
The only real reason I want this is to improve and increase the induction noises.
I am not adding this thinking performance gains, however if a small amount is to be had I will take it but mainly I would not want to do this modification and lose power.
Lastly I need to contact my local VW Retailer to clarify warranty as I wouldn’t want this to effect it in the event of any gearbox issues etc down the line. I’m sure I read somewhere there needs to be justification of said modification causing the failure?
Again very undecided due to the above at the moment.
