Who owns a Mondeo ST220 / ST TDCI?

Was going to post in here last night but then decided i could be bothered to type :p

Anyway, on the way to Bakewell from Chesterfield there is a country road that has had 1 lane closed so it is only 1 way at the moment due to snow still being built up to 7ft on one side of the road.

Me in the ST and my friend in his 156GTA decided to have a bit of fun down this lane (twice) and literally push both cars to there limits going down this 7 miles of bendy fast roads. What a hoot of a time! The ST went brilliant, though i found a bit of roll on the car and the GTA my mate just bought was just mental, it stuck to the road like glue and left me a few times on the bends. (Could be because he has bigger balls though)

Great time though! Especially with the built snow just towering over the car just feet away.

(Just to note: i never went over 60mph on this NSL road  :) )

They hustle very well indeed for a big FWD car! And yet it's very comfortable when you just want to cruise.

I was in Bath for a couple of days over the weekend and there's some fantastic roads leading to/from the nearby countryside, I was having a whale of a time hooning it like a loon, all the while my girlfriend was playing Tetris on her iPad, unphased.

Decent tyres + correct alignment + correct tyre pressures = good fun. Especially since I replaced my slightly sticky rear caliper.

Finally fixed my washer bottle too! That was fiddly.

I'd be wary. It's bound to have led a hard life especially with that tow bar. I'm sure you can find a regular-spec 04 with a third of that mileage for similar money, too, despite how clean it looks in photos. Might be worth a punt for £2-2.5k if you can be sure it's been serviced religiously though.

How on earth is that my fault?! :p

Can you suggest any for around the £250-£300 mark? Been quite a while since I have bought a car stereo so am a little out of touch. The only thing is, if I fit an aftermarket head unit the controls on the stem by the steering wheel wont work, will they?

They certainly will if you buy the right wiring adaptor. :)

I'd also recommend just ditching the Sony unit, it sounds like arse. I'm not sure how well a double-DIN unit fits without faffing around though. Imy have you actually fitted one? I can't remember where our recent discussion on the subject led us!

I've been running 40-35 for the last few weeks. ...... but so far not experienced any understeer like I sometimes did before and economy is way up from avg. 21mpg to avg. 24mpg

.

:)

Anyone bringing theirs to the RR on Saturday? Would be good to park all the Mondeos and Focuses (Focii?) together :D

How much are the Ford bearing kits? I'd go for those over pattern parts if they're not horrendously priced.

Rybo I plan on doing my gearbox oil at some point, looks a bit of a faff though lol. Standard 75sae90 or whatever Ford spec oil rings a bell but not entirely sure. I just know you have to crow bar the engine to move it on its mounts apparently, to get to the filler plug :p

'Fraid so. Was only musing, mind you. I'm just quite fond of the E46 coupe.

I concluded that it isn't worth changing to either of those though and I can't afford anything better so once again I realise that the Mondeo is the best car for me :p

A 155bhp 4 cylinder diesel doesn't deserve to wear the ST badge, IMHO. You'll get plenty of people on owner's forums disagreeing and telling you how they "kept up" with ST220s, remapped them to 500bhp and 1400 lb-ft of torque, etc, but that'll just be their purchase justification.

It's a much better car than the Vectra though, but then that's not hard ;)
