Who owns a Mondeo ST220 / ST TDCI?

If you want to hear the JP Howard, you're welcome to have a listen to mine. Although with windows up there's not a lot to hear.

Thanks Imy. I'll probably be hearing it soon enough....

I place the blame entirely on Rybo for what I'm doing today.

I know that the suggestion of buying a Mk3 with a diesel engine is usually met with a unanimous "don't do it!", but if I find one that has had the DMF and Clutch recently replaced, is there anything to really worry about?

And are there any significant differences between the ST 2.2 TDCI and the 2.0l in the non ST Mk3's?

Injectors, everything else diesely, the noise.

25bhp :p

I need a cheap well equipped comfortable car for under £3k. I'm looking at Petrol Ghia X's, but Diesels outnumber Petrols by a significant amount so I started wondering if they were actually the massive money pit people say they are.

try and find one which has had DMF/injectors/turbo replaced in the last 5000 miles then you should be good to go :p

How many miles per annum btw ?

Haha.

My mileage is very unpredictable. At the moment I am doing around 500 miles a week, but this project ends in September and I could end up doing zero miles for the next 6 months.

An ST TDCI would be great, but I don't fancy a £1000 bill from what is basically just a work tool.

I've been thinking about the Focus ST brake upgrade situation again...

You can buy a pair of brand new front Pagid Focus ST calipers from EuroCarParts for a shade under £200.. Bit less than the £300 than some people want!! How much do the carriers tend to go for?

The above is business miles. I will be doing all my personal miles in it too, and having to pay for 20mpg out of my own pocket is not something I fancy.

500 miles a week and the business is paying? Great, even better! Each time I drive for work I profit quite nicely with the 45p per mile :p

If I was in your situation I'd get a nice 2.0 petrol Ghia X or something.

Yeah, just get a 2.0 petrol. You'll manage 40mpg on a run and around 30 in town. Good enough surely if you're paying?

They're not cheap.

I made this table a while back so the prices are likely out of date. It's based on new parts from Ford:

Code:
Part # Description (exc. VAT) Qty Subtotal

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
                                                  P&P (fordpartsuk.com) £5.50
                                                               Subtotal £856.31
                                                                    VAT £171.26
                                                                  Total £1,027.57

The AP kit doesn't cost much more than that I think.
