Howards does suprise me

Admittedly it's far easier to average higher MPGs on a run at night with little traffic but it's doable. That, or my trip computer is lying through its teeth. It's all about how you drive, how you anticipate what's happening up ahead and how much of a lead foot you have, IMHO. Makes a big difference to town driving in my experience. :)

27MPG combined is probably spot on, my long term average over the last ~26k is 26.6.

I just think it's a great all rounder :) Cheap to buy, reliable, handles well, goes well, rides well, comfortable, well equipped, cheap to service, looks nice, wonderful V6 growl.

to be honest that 3.0 v6 has to be one of the worst engines out there, like i said the amount of fuel it uses doesnt compare to the power output ive seen e46 m3's average more mpg

Saying things like the mpg vs performance makes it a bad engine is crazy. Think about cars with similar power, standard Scooby Turbo (non sti) or RX8, they get worse mpg with similar power, do they also have bad engines? Im currently averaging 27.1mpg in mine, thats dual carrigeway, town driving and popping to tesco on my lunch break. I was seeing way worse in my mr2 turbo and not that much better in my old civic type-r eP3.

Not the end of the world no but more than the service on its own would have costed! And I did tell them to check it over and let me know if anything needs doing, so yeah. :)

Where did you go for a service?

My last (and first) service was at an indy and cost £207. It was the 7th year one which included air con, brake fluid drain and all filters. I also had the spark plugs and aux drive belts replaced and a full coolant drain+replace.

Main dealer where I bought it. They gave me some vouchers for discount services when I bought the car. Next year I might investigate prices elsewhere but they're not exactly expensive as far as main dealers go. However your price above is pretty good if it included all that!!

Ahh sorry didn't mean to imply the price included the spark plugs, aux drive belts and coolant drain+replace. I asked for them to be done as extras. Total including service and few other tid bits came to around £400.

Dealer wanted nearly that just for the service though.

My ST220 has done just over 67000 miles it had done 65700 when I bought it a month ago. Am I right in thinking there is a major service is due at 68000 miles?

The last MOT done in Feb this year gave an advisory on the rear sub frame so I know thats due sometime in the nearish future but Ive been advised its not critical and should be sorted as and when. I'm thinking I should just get it done now tbh?

As mine is an 04 plate should I request the 7 year service and also ask the garage to give the car a thorough look over?

I'm thinking of taking it to a ST220 specialist such as Pumaspeed in W. Yorks rather than a generic garage.

Go through the old receipts for the car and check against the service sheets as to what's been done and what hasn't. I'm personally following a combination of the service sheets and haynes manual. I would think most places can manage a service on the ST220 just fine.

Services should be carried out every 12,500 miles or 12 months; whichever comes first.

I don't have my service book to hand, but every 3rd service is a major I believe so the 7 year service is a minor one. The service schedule should be every 12500 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first.
