Who really uses more than 320GB

320gb is easy to use up, I've got 3x200gb hard drives and they are well over half full at the moment although I'm trying to bring that back under control for a probable reinstall/rebuild so I have hundreds of CDs/DVDs as backups.

since i have my pc linked to my home cinema i rip dvd`s and all my music is on my pc.

i only buy cd`s as cheaper to get album than to download it.

Well a lot of people need somewhere to store all that pr0n  - who asked this silly question anyway?!

:D.

I have this setup:
2x80GB RAID0 - windows/games and for speed i.e. space is irrelevant here - I just wanted cheap speed.
2x80GB RAID1 - backup image of windows drive + all important data + music collection + pictures
1x320GB - anything else which is disposable. video files (mostly my own stuff, lots of funnies from the web etc), music I don't care about etc, work space for transferring files or temporary hold of data.

2x 36gb raptors in raid0 for os/games/programs
1x 300gb for music/music videos
1x 100gb for photoshop stuff and digital photos of mine ( only shoot in RAW)
1x 300gb for backup

the 300 and 100 are about 10gb away from been full and must have it is backed up on disc or other media

Per gig storage is so cheap these days, it does lead to me hoard a lot stuff when years ago I might have been more selective in what I kept.

36GB raptor for OS
320GB + 200GB for media stuff

Currently saving up for a RAID 5 setup as I'm becoming paranoid about losing stuff.

I have a 36Gb raptor for windows, 250Gb for programs and games, 250Gb for files and 80Gb for backup. Im eventually aiming for;

36Gb Raptor for windows
250Gb for games/programs
250Gb for files
500Gb for Media files(Divx/Mp3's etc)
1Tb for backup.

That lot should keep me happy for a while. And yes, I know 250Gb for games/programs is overkill, but I don't like unistalling stuff very often. :)
i hope those aren't just individual HDDs... how long does it take to degfrag and how often do you!?

i've got a 74GB raptor and a 120GB Seagate Barracuda... shall soon be getting a new HDD though as i'm running low on space.

my new HTPC build is getting 250GB as a bare minumum on a single drive, it'll probably be even more...

Soon to be,

2x 320GB Raid 0 - OS, Programs, Games, torrents seeding (150GB+-).
1x 250GB - Pictures - Videos.
1x 250GB - Backup - Music.

Need a larger drive for my video collection aehmm 750GB or 1TB drive would do. :)

2x 320GB Raid 0 - OS, Programs, Games, torrents seeding (150GB+-).
1x 250GB - Pictures - Music.
1x 250GB - Backup
1x 1TB - Videos.

74GB western digital raptor - windows + programs (50gb free)

320GB seagate - storage (59gb free)
320gb seagate - storage (181gb free)
500gb seagate - storage (81gb free)

I have a lot of stuff lol, my internet connection (2 meg) just doesn't cut it anymore, need to get something much faster :D my pc is always on though, downloading 24/7, so that storage space above is nothing at all! The 320 drives are gonna go soon when prices drop on the bigger drives, il need at least 2TB storage by next year, 4x 500GB drives should be enough i hope. :D

Yup they are seperate drives. The backup drive doesn't get degragged, neither does the files drive as it serves very little benefit. 36Gb takes hardly any time to defrag, and im not sure about the others. Doesn't really matter as it all happens when I go for my dinner. The computer is set to look for periods of inactivity after a certain time, it then automatically defrags and checks to see what files have changed and backs them up. All I see when I get back from my dinner, is a message saying 'backup complete', which I can confirm has happened if i look at the sequential event log.

No-one needs more than 160Gb unless they are into any kind of media storage on their PC or development. Even then I'd only say dodgy "backups" of movie files as not many people will fill up even 160Gb of music.

At least a few of those with huge media collections are using backups. :)

I leave everything on my hdd, its much more convenient. My simpsons folder alone (season 1-17) is 46.4GB :D

Like it, I want.hehe

Yeah agreed most of mine is backup. Again storage is so cheap i think its worth it.

Media / Vmware server
1x160 for OS
6x250 for movies and vmware images RAID5

Games pc
2x 75gb Raptor

Media centre
1x 300gb

Backups:
I have 106 DDS4 DAT tapes & 4x 300gb drives all full of backups

in belgium we are capped at 10gb downloads a month so it would take ages to fill a 320GB. I have a 60 and it ****** me off having to uninstall my games all the time.

Don't know where all the space has gone :( Might format it again hehe

I have a digital video camera. And it eats up the gigabytes. Then you have to store all the clips. (In some sort of order... Eventually... )

And then you need space to edit... *sigh*

Likewise the music collection.

And the many backups.

Oh, and I like to use my PC as a media streamer. (sort of). So I can use the laptop to access my HDD on PC to play movies. Consider that I use a program to shrink my dvds onto one disc, thats still over 4gig a film. 10 films is 40gig.

My ideal would be all of my DVD collection on HDD... Yeah... thats 800 gig on films alone... *sigh*
