Who shaves their head?

Been using both Wahl and Remington for over 20 years I'd guess, always a No2 comb and all over with a proper razor neck shave afterwards. I'd tried a few different types of Steel/Ceramic blades between the two brands but always found the shaver broke before the steel blades dulled making the extra expense of ceramics ones a bit pointless for me.

However my current set is an amazon special from China somewhere which are OK.

@Warbie I remember your original thread about shaving your hair off.

I don't have shave my head but I do trim it all over now. I just trimmed it yesterday which is the second time I've done it now, the first was in February

Just something to note re: clippers. I've seen a bunch of posts recommending clippers but just throwing in brand names, this isn't too informative, the clippers can vary a bit.

Clippers that might be fine for the occasional DIY haircut when you have a full head of hair can be a bit of a faff if you're giving yourself a buzz cut one or twice a week.

For example re: Wahl clippers - I'd personally spend a little bit more to go with the Wahl super tapers over the budget models, the motor is a bit better and that makes a big difference. Also the Wahl balding hair clippers basically have the same motor as the super tapers IIRC.

If you really want to splash the cash then the Wahl senior clippers have an even better motor than either the super taper of the balding models.

Yeah better.. but you wanna buy minoxidil for rest of your life or just accept a fact of nature... and save some money for things that matter?
Interesting point of view. Nature sucks, if you hadn't noticed, and there are unlimited examples of things that humans do to counter it.

Regarding saving money for things that matter, hair matters to some and not to others.

I just use a number 1 as I have enough hair on my bonce that it would be too much of a pain to remove completely. It's funny after 20 years of doing it I don't even remember what it's like to have hair.

I think if people are worried about hairloss, I'd try and "get rid of it" first, if you hate it, let it grow back and then seek treatment. It might turn out to be cheaper and also maybe less of an issue than you first thought. Though of course if hair is a critical part of "you" then modern treatments seem to be getting better.

It took me quite a while from first thinking about shaving my head to actually doing it. Looking back I shouldn't have hesitated, I should have done it straight away rather than second guessing myself. In the end it all came off before we went on holiday to the canaries - so at least when I got back the skin tone was even all round.

I also should have done it around this time of year while it's warm instead of September as things cool off. It's noticeable when the weather is cool.

It's my crown I worry about mostly, maybe "care" is a better word than worry? From the front you wouldn't really know I'm balding, and 85% of the population would be clueless too until I sit down due to my height :p

I don't believe I'm in denial about my hair loss and clinging on to it unnecessarily like some blokes you see, in fact I'm probably more acutely aware that I've only got a year or so left before busting out the clippers/shaver.

That's exactly how I was. From the front it didn't look bad, but the crown was thin. I could have maybe got another year out of it, but I just took the plunge the day before we went away on holiday.
Once the first run was shaved, right down the middle, it was all go. There was a pang of regret but that passed and I ended up being really happy with it.

It's one of those situations that, to me, felt like a big deal to approach, but when it was done I was good. Ultimately you know what's best for you so I can only relate my experience.

Oh, you'll notice much shorter showers too. I now save on water and shampoo as well as trips to the barber.

Indeed.. did a rough calc and reckon my £12 clippers have saved me appx £1200 by now.. I might be able to buy a GPU now :D

I'm 45 and I first shaved my head in 1998 and never looked back. I was 23 and it was thinning front and centre, too obvious to hide it.

I can only remember it so specifically as it was the day Saving Private Ryan was released at the cinema. Bought some clippers, cinema then home to do the deed with the better half. I wouldn't have hair back if I had the choice, doesn't bother me in the slightest. The only annoying thing is around the back and sides it grows amazingly fast so I need to keep on top of it.

Better off investing in a proper set of clippers first tbh. I've just bought £600 worth of scissors to cut the wee mans hair and he's only 6 months old. I didn't pay full price I got 60% off and I also ordered a nice case for them and a proper gown to keep the hair off him and me when I do mine (I've always just stripped to boxers when doing mine and then just jumped straight in the shower but now I have the gown I won't need to do that possibly). I can't believe people are honestly happy with £12 clippers but I do understand if they truly haven't used better they wouldn't know the difference but a decent set of clippers is literally £40 it's mind boggling people spend less when they are saving so much in the long run.

I am very close to either shaving my head completely or down to a buzz cut. I've nearly tried everything I can to stop my hair thinning in the middle, with the exception of trying finesteride, and it's become almost futile now.

£12 clippers bought 30 years ago... probably cost more now ;)
