Who will be the new Doctor?

Isn't Doctor Who one of BBC's profitable programmes with lots of other countries buying it, plus lots of merchandise sales?

That with Top Gear and the documentaries probably helps fund a hell of a lot of other programs.

arknor did you enjoy the likes of Planet Earth and The Blue Planet? The BBC is pretty much the only organisation (including American companies) that can afford to create documentaries of that calibre, get rid of the licence fee and you'll end up with ITV "documentaries".

You couldn't. Apart from anything else those signals are not 'goods' they are a service.

If you wanted to be pedantic you could call the photons a good. ;) Seriously though the act includes services, it's called "The unsolicited goods and services act 1971". Stops random people doing jobs like cutting the grass or cleaning the windows and demanding payment. If it was anyone other than the bbc they would be shut down and arrested, another example of government corruption.

Tough act to beat Tennant TBH!

Best doctor, EVER!

This next dude better be good. Its one of things I actually like on TV and bother to go and watch!

Top Gear/Dr Who/Torchwood/Traffic Cops/Road Wars/Who do you think you are.

I don't pay for my license yet, but in 9 months time I WILL pay it.

yet another reason the tv license should die, i'd rather have adverts and i bet if the whole country voted the majority would aswell.

If BBC had to adopt adverts and then start doing breaks in TV programs then that is just the end of decent TV. Adverts are a pain in the ***. I have never bought anything off the TV, nor do I ever intend to!

I've been timeshifting since the days of vcr's, don't understand why some people still don't have pvr's.

pfft tv adverts dont kill anything unless its a proper film, and 3 minutes of adverts in between eastenders or whatever you watch isnt going to kill you.

i think in my house the only bbc programs that get watched are east enders and drwho, thats a lot of money we are paying not to watch a lot of crap programs.

no but there are more interesting documentaries on other channels even if they arent as pretty to look at.

i bet 90% of people barely watch the bbc compared to other channels but a lot of people think its worth it because of programs like east enders and topgear

The new doctor will be - Matt Smith. Honest. He's an ok actor, but far too young for Doctor Who, in my opinion.

I'd happily have Eddie Izzard, I think he'd be a very good doctor. He's very British, he's funny, he has good timing, and having seen his series he did in the states (the name escapes me, he was a tinker in it) he's certainly a good enough actor for Doctor Who.

As for people bashing Doctor Who... come off it. It's just a bit of fun. It appeals to kids because it's a bit scary and aimed at them, and it appeals to adults (of at least 30) because we saw it as kids. I guess there's an age gap of people who didn't grow up with Doctor Who and are too old to appreciate it as 'kids'. But nobody forces them to watch it. Sadly I can't stand Strictly Come Dancing, but since so many people watch it and it's not doing any harm then I can't complain.

Also, Patrick Stewart would do a good Doctor Who, so would Bill Nighy, but my absolute favourite person for the role would be Brian Cox.

As I understand, this guy

He's currently clear favourite on Betfair, and the odds have tightened up a fair bit in the past couple of hours.

Generally for things like that, where some people will already know, the odds don't tighten up until it gets leaked around.

Edit : Actually I got it wrong.

Matt Smith -WAS- clear favourite, and despite his odds tightening, Patterson Joseph's odds have tightened much more, and he's the favourite. (Edit : Not clear favourite, it's close between Smith and Joseph)

Betting on either will not give much yield, Joseph is 1/3 and Smith is 1/2 in fractional odds (roughly).

For those that don't know betting odds, you'd have to bet 3 quid on Joseph, and you'd win back a total of 4 quid. (Risk 3 quid, to gain 1 quid) and for Smith you'd have to risk 2 quid to gain 1 quid.

Didn't Patterson Joseph already appear several times in Dr.Who as completely different character?

Half of me doesn't care who takes over. As far as I am concerned Tennant was the best Doctor. Taking over from him is going to be hard. I think Tennant's left at the right time. A lot of the Doctor Who fans love him and it means he leaves with them wanting him to stay. Surely he'd prefer this to the fans wanting him to leave because he's stayed too long.

Stephen Fry could be promising but I can't see him committing to the time Doctor Who would need what with QI and his other jaunts.
John Simm would be great but he was already the master :(
Bet the writers could find a way to make this happen. ;) They already face a problem in the near future with the Doctor reaching his limits on regeneration I think.

Get Glennister in! I want to see him **** off a Dalek!
:D Glennister would be quality. Don't think it'll happen mind. :(

teddy would be his assistant, or baldrick...anyone thinking what i'm thinking? :D
I have a cunning plan? :p

Probably. But then Freema Agyeman had appeared in Doctor Who before she was cast as Martha Jones.

it's 11 regenerations isn;t it? he's had 11 now (one she kind of stopped half way) hasn't he?

Although they might just say with no other time lords he has all thier regenerations too.

I would not be surprised if its a woman this time around! It could easily be written that a female would have a full cycle of regenerations hence getting around the 11th problem.

No you couldn't. :/ Go read SoGA again and go read some case law. In particular you might want to brush up on Hunter v Canary Wharf in which it's pretty obvious that the idea of dealing with television signals as a chattel is too silly a one for anyone to even advance.

Seriously though the act includes services, it's called "The unsolicited goods and services act 1971".
Erm lets go back and look at what you said...
It's the exact definition of unsolicited goods in the sale of goods act.
Would you like to decide which act you're seeking to rely upon? You can't rely upon SoGA if there are no goods involved, which I suspect is why you're now pretending you were referring to the unsolicited goods and services act all along...

If it was anyone other than the bbc they would be shut down and arrested, another example of government corruption.
You do realise it's not the BBC that collects the license fee? You further realise that the license fee does not only go to the BBC? In addition you realise that the act only applies where you do not have a reasonable cause to believe there is a right to payment?
