Personally I prefer bang for buck buying, HOWEVER I can see where people like easyrider come from, and I dont think its wrong. Theres an innate part of the human psyche that wants to have one up on everyone else and be/have the best, and its often seen as a male trait, its just another outlet for the human nature of competetiveness.
People indulge it with cars, houses, clothes, nights out, pc parts, whatever they wish, however my take on it isnt to demand/expect them to stop it if they can comfortably afford it -indeed if they CAN comfortably afford it, then more power to them.
If it makes them feel better, have more fun, and gives them something new (everyone loves a new toy), and they've earned the right/cash to have it, without sacrificing in needed areas, thats fine.
Im not a rich person, being a student, and I prefer bang for buck buying myself, but I dont think any one of us on a hardware enthusiast forum cant say we were tempted by something at some time or another, we're hardware ENTHUSIASTS for god's sake.
Its a simple case that some people have the money available to indulge themselves on the temptations, and decide they want to so they do, regardless of where that temptation may lie.
As its just expression of a standard human trait, I dont see the issue, as long as its not causing them harm, or harm to anyone else.
If I had the money, and there was a nice little performance boost, then yes I'd be tempted, solely from the fact that as a newer card, the X2800xtx (or whatever its called) is likely to be worth something longer than my older card, so the card will either last me longer, be usable at higher resolutions and settings for longer, or will be worth more when I come to trade it in.
