Who with a 8800 series is getting R600?

I started reading this thread thinking that upgrading to the latest hardware is a futile exercise, but having read all of it, your "£75 per month upgrade plan" is really starting to make me think...

ARRRGH GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!! NOTHING WRONG WITH AN X800!!

shader model 2 springs to mind? No it is a good card...shame it looks like ubisoft is showing a lack of support. If you had the cash though the 8800gtx/gts rock and seeing as you do not upgrade a lot feature wise i.e shader model 4 it would last you ages....

My mother smokes.

She smokes a pack of 24 royals a day. Every day. This costs something very close to £5 and goes through a bottle of wine @ £18 on both Saturday and Sunday on her days off.

She is a business and finance director and does work "hard"...

This routine has been in place for at least the past ten years probably longer. Her leisure pursuits just relating to alcohol and nicotine in this instance [ignoring trips out, gymn membership etc] comes to:

[5x7] £35

[2x18]£ 36

Total weekly expense £71

Typical monthly expense @ 4.34812141 weeks = £308.71

Yearly expense = £3704.52

Call her an alcoholic, or a chainsmoking addict but she fits into society perfectly. Perfectly normal person, who spends the better part of 4 grand a year on something that is a complete and utter waste, not only that it actively damages health.

If people have a problem with a guy upgrading his pc to the tune of ~ 1000GBP each year because he wants to then instead of saying he should get a life they really ought to reflect upon their own.

Easyrider, you go buy the bleeding edge stuff my friend, I will then be glad your premium VAT is going towards society and that people who might not have otherwise been able to afford whatever it is you are selling can get a go with it on the 2nd hand market. Good for you, don't listen to the fools and if you put your hobby through business and rip people off on the 2nd hand market then thanks anyway for being the incentive for such rapid and great progression in the technology fields.

Lol. Erm, I don't know mate. Do you do "Save For Web" once you've done the sig? I have blur set to 0.1 as well. See if that helps. :)

By the time its released its technically second gen DX10 card as theres a huge gap between G80 release. It's main competitor will probably be G81 or whatever nvidia release next. of course if it is only marginally faster or god forbid slower then it will just be considered a failure and a massive joke.

The thing that hasnt been mentioned so far, is that you will be selling a perfectly good DX10 card without ever having a DX10 game touch it! Doesnt that annoy you somewhat? It would me!

Not really no,

no one bought the 8800 series when they first came out for DX 10 anyway.
Its was bought as it was the fastest card at that time.

I didn't buy the 8800 for DX 10

Who bougght the Athlon 64 when it first came out for 64-bit? How many people ever touched a 64-bit app in all the time they owned their AMD64? Or did they just buy it because at the time it was the baddest mutha around for 32-bit apps?

I rest my case. ;)

As said above no one bought the G80's for Dx10, no one is that stupid (i hope :D ), why buy a card in November for something that your not going to be able to use for months, and something that you don't know how well your card will run, everyone has been buying them for Dx9 as they are the fastest Dx9 cards around buy a country mile, nothing to do with Dx10 at all, no one cares about Dx10 as it isn't here yet, and won't be for months, yes Vista has got Dx10, but what can you use it for, exactly nowt, as theres bugger all for it yet, just because you have a G80 it doesn't mean yer Vista is going to run better/and look better than it does on a Dx9 card as Vista runs perfectly fine on Dx9 cards, the Dx10 on it is only for when Dx10 featured games come out as XP can't do Dx10, thats all, its no biggie. :D

Right, so anyone who buys an 8800GTX or other high-end card has no common sense? Do wealthy people who buy expensive, sexy sports cars have no common sense? People who buy the more expensive fashion labels? No, it's all down to personal taste.

I like all of the above mentioned. :D

Last card i had that was "current Gen" was my x1900XT.I stopped gaming, started going back out into the real world :D

Now im happy if the card can play the odd game of BF2,surf the net and most importantly,Cost Peanuts.

People will always want the latest tech and good luck to them.If they have earned the money then they have the right to spend it on what the hell they like.

I used have to have the best gear the day it came out I really did'nt care about the cost I just wanted the best, it was'nt until I brought my 6300 my whole attitude changed, I had brought an X6800 on release day for £750 and sold it to fund a Q6700, the 6300 was just a stop gap, It cost me £110 and when overclocked it practicly ran games frame for frame the same as the X6800, it really made me stop and think why I had been wasting my money, just think, you can now go out and buy a 4300 oem and DS3 o/c it and in practicly all games it'll run the same if not better than a Q6700 @ stock, I just find that amazing.
