A duel core opteron @ 2.7Ghz annihilates a pathetic P4. No contest.

Well im not seeng this godly increase in games that people seem to swear on the bible by. Perhaps in benchmarks its more obvious but imo not real gameplay.

I saw a pretty decent improvement in framerate when I went from an Athlon64 3400+ @ 3900+ speeds to a Core 2 Duo E6300 @ 3GHz, especially in games like Oblivion that need high specs on every single component.

Maybe your Conroe is underperforming.

Thats if it sells for 375, it might not even sell for 350, R600 might cost £500 and be only marginally faster.. How you going to justify it then? Oh wait, it's only money.. :p

If its marginaly faster and that is like ~5fps over the 8800GTX in DX9 and DX10 then there would be no point at all in buying it especially if it did happen to cost £500.

If u knew the meaning of hard work u wouldnt be frizzling away your money. You are the equivalent of a female who has 100 pairs of shoes.

Now I am fed up with trying to reason with you with logical arguments, if I reply again its will be to ridicule you no less. ;)

E-peen is a very expensive hobby tbh :D

I have upgraded in the past to the latest and greatest and saw some massive improvements but bang per buck it certainly is not and if I wasn't such a perfectionist in trying to get the best kit available and the highest clocks, the highest fps and the highest settings regardless of cost then hell it should be deemed a crime. £500 for a graphics card is utterly insane but then so is 100k on a ferrari. We are talking obscene amounts of cash for the best hardware. Its always been the case and wont change anytime soon. Those that have the cash to spare will indulge themselves regardless of threads like these asking for 'opinions'.

it is a very expensive hobby but if thats what you want to do, do it. don't let somone who has things to spend their money on stop you from spending yours. I am going to get an 8800 as soon as a good block comes out. i wont be getting the r600 because of the poxy 2d 3d clock switching system ati use.

Logical arguements?

You talk of x1900's and high interest saving accounts!

Your arguement is non existent.

Your post dont make any sense.

But you're entertaining no less :D

So is Motorbikes,Cars, season tickets to football matches,Women,Drink, model aeroplanes,hovercrafts,skydiving,F1,women,gambling,women and GFX cards.

Don't get what so different about all of them?

I think anyone spending 500 quid on a FA Cup final ticket is cool if thats what they want to do and I don't really follow football.

Its usually the people that dont have the money to get the FA cup ticket or the best GFX card or the flying lessons that are the ones saying its a waste of money.

The have nots always spout up because basically some of us can afford and wish to have an enjoy the latest kit.

You know who you are and TBH its quite sad.

Q

Back on topic,

Personally I've got a 8800GTX and won't be buying R600

Why?

Quite happy with what I've got :D

I have the ability to put £7000 on my credit card. I could buy 8800GTX's, but that doesn't mean I should. The same for Hi-Fi, there's a cut off point where to get that slight bit of performance means spending thousands more. I'm into Hi-Fi, and have pretty good gear. To upgrade my stereo system would mean selling two excellent stereo poweramps for four monoblocs- it will be better but that's several thousand pounds more. At the end of the day I'm happy with the system.

Sensible enthusiasts look at it from the sensible POV, and not just go daft. Any idiot can go into debt, or just throw away money. That's ok when you're a teenager, but not once you're past 30, and especially if you have a family.

I think it's sad to spend money for little or no discernable improvement, or just because it exists. Are you that shallow that having the best gives you bragging rights/sense of life? Not only that, but you come on here saying "I have 8800GTX, all you poor dole scum with X1900XTX's are losers" or something to that effect.

The thing is we are not taliking thousands more are we?
No we are talking around selling a card and putting maybe putting £150 into the new card

Thats why upgrading quickly before price drops occur is the smart thing to do.
Have you read every page of this thread?

So do I but R600 will see increases IMO and I'm willing to have a gamble on getting one.

Either way the R600 maintains its resale value longer as its a newer card.

Not once have I mentioned other x1900 owners. So you are putting words into other peoples mouths here.

Quote me please where i say "dole Scum" for starters...

Thanks. While I'm waiting for you to find this non existent quote I made

They chose to post in a thread that has not relevance for their hardware setup.

If you were in a HI-FI forum and started a thread on a NAD amp owners.Would you not be a bit confused if people started posting in it who owned Cyberhome amps instead?

:D
