Who with a 8800 series is getting R600?

Besides, all this talk of high gfx and no talk of the games we will end up playing on them - just checked the release dates for the next few months, nothing really looks worthy enough to justify me personally spending 300 on an upgrade...

C&C3 - lets face it, it will be pants
Crysis - I have to admit, this is looking superb :P
UT3 - out in Sept...

Like my dad used to say, having a high def TV is all well and good, but it doesnt make the [Fully star out swearies or have a holiday] on TV any better.

Thats true - you can't polish a turd as they say. Its like the PS3/XBOX360 debate. It will take time before the great titles come out and make full use of the technology. I see that with DX10 etc... Ill wait for that title i REALLY want before splashing my cash.

why is it some of the ppl here are replying within minutes of there own posts? are you that bored :D

anyways, I spent a lot of money on my computer because its what i enjoy, its my thing, I would rather have the good stuff then spend less and overclock. I've never had a intel based rig before and never overclocked one so this will be a first for me when i get round to it, Altho my bios temps are about 15c lower then whats showing on desktop. Which do i consider to be real? (bios is updated.)

Cheers

Thats the thing.....You don't need to spend money in PC hardware.

More money doesn't mean "good stuff"

I Have a faster CPU in my rig at the mo in my 6400 @ 3.7ghz than others who have spent hundreds more and still dont get the clocks.

Good stuff does not always mean more money.... ;)

Yes this is true but how much have you spent on the cooling system to get it to 3.7, are you not using a Phase unit which cost a few hundred pounds to get set up. But if your using a cheap cooler then i take my hat of to you ;)

Is that because you dont have one or cant afford to own one....?

Its the latest card.

People want to upgrade to the latest tech

Just because you think its a waste of money does not mean it is.

In my view keeping a GTX to long and losing a lot on it is a waste of money.

I would rather sell the GTX move on to pastures new for a nominal outlay.

Meaning I have had value out of the card.

Not leaving it 3 months too late and having to sell it in MM for 150 quid.

no i dont have one.. and right now i couldnt afford one.. but as i see it even if i won 100,000£ tomorow and i had an 88xx series card and then the R600 came out.. its still pointless "upgrading", and it IS a waste of money... now as some have said in their examples... going from one generation to the next generation is another matter

I've gone from 6600 GT to a 6800 GS (small jump), and then to a 8800 GTS (large jump). Both sorts of upgrade have merit. Large jumps give huge differences in performance, small jumps mean you don't need to upgrade the rest of your PC at the same time! :)

The new card costs say £475

Meaning I plough the 375 back in and get new gen for £100.

which is true if its new gen... or if it has a new shader model or rendering ability... but what your talking about is going from a 88xx series to a R600.. isnt R600 the same gen as the 8xxx series as 7800/900/950 was to the raddy x1900/950 etc

that is why it is pointless its not about wasting money in terms of something that is needed for new technological advancements in rendering, its about wasting money for no advancement other than a few measly FPS... unless the R600 turns out to be a monster magical card that significally improves FPS or image quality to a degree that is amazing there is no point
