Who's ditching 48XX for 58XX?

Woot! My card came this morning! Can't wait to have a play after work!! Upgrading from a 4850 (512MB) is going to be awesome!

Nah my xfire 4870's cope rather well at the moment and I doubt I will see any noticeable difference.
Eyefinity would be awesome, but I will wait till they do an X2 Edition before I take the plunge.

I'm looking more to drop my pc idle usage.

Having just purchased a 4890 then no. I tend to get at least 14 months use out of my graphics cards, it tends to be more economically viable to do it that way. I had my 4850 for a little over a year and only lost £40 in total. A little under £3 a month for a then state of the art card is not bad.

I'll look at getting a next gen card Christmas next year.

Can't see the point for me to change. Am running at 1650x1080 with my 4870x2. There is just no need to change, especially as it runs every game I own absolutely perfectly and the system is barely 6 months old. Plus games arent up to Dx11 yet, the 4870x2 is perfect at the moment and more than likely adequate for at least the next couple of years for me.

How much faster is the 5850 compared to my 4890 card as i didnt want the extra length of the 5870 and i was wondering if its still worth the upgrade ?
my 4890 is the 900Mhz oc edition

I would say next year, as i think they are concentrating on the 5850 and 5870 x2's atm and possibly the drivers and the 5890 after that.

I'm upgrading from 4870 1GB to 5870. Why ? Why not - that is the last thing to upgrade for a system which will not need anything for at least a year :
i5 750 + P55-UD5 + 4GB DDR3 1600MHz CL8 - check
128GB SSD + 1TB WD Black - check
24" HP LP2475w IPS LCD - check
SB X-Fi soundcard - check
Corsair HX620 PSU - check

So really the only thing to upgrade is HD4870... And maybe the PSU, when Seasonic X-Series will come out, but that depends on price.
