Who's ditching Q6600 FOR q9450?

You have to remember use our computers for more than just games - If I was just gaming, I'd probably go for another dual core, but I often run things which makes use of all 4 cores. :)

Not me, I've just built the bloomin' thing & don't plan on changing it until the stocks of high speed yorkfields are almost gone! :p

If you take benchmarks and video crunching out of the equation I struggle to tell any difference between 3.0 and 4.0 Ghz in all honesty. The difference is also marginal going from 2 to 4 cores. In games it will make zero difference unless you play at 800x600.

My quad was stuck at 3ghz for a good while on my old s775 board, I found quit a few games didn’t run as smoothly with the same settings as they did with my e6600 at 3.8ghz. After finally getting my q6600 to 4ghz I noticed the minimum frame rate of most my games improved visually and games ran as well as they did before at my original settings. Going from 3 to 4ghz is definitely noticeable imo, of course having twice as much power with this quad is just priceless when encoding media!

Sorry mate but I find that hard to believe.

There is no game out that will be cpu bound on a quad at 3 ghz. I suspect you have other issues.

Nope, no issues what so ever :) I’ve found games like test drive, race, and other simbin games simply run better with an extra 1Ghz, even at gpu limited settings. Only game that doesn’t budge is crysis, saying that when I run the benchmark with OCUKs settings I gain 3fps average which knocks it up to 56fps. Its really not worth shouting about but every little helps :)

Well I've only just moved over to a Q6600 last Wednesday so no chance of me dumping it for a more temperamental model :D Haven't even got round to seeing the limits of my chip yet :)

Not played Supreme Commander then? :p

A big team game will really start to get sluggish on a dual core, the difference between when I had a 3.6GHz dual to a 3.6GHz quad, also upgrading from 2-4gig of ram is staggering. Both with 2 gig of ram there was a big increase too.

i dont think there is point buy one for about 10% increase in performance i think waiting for nahelm would be wiser but if you have money to burn for 10% performance.

Thats like saying is as ultra worth it over a GTX?

I sold my Q6600 for 145 and spending £60 for fun is worth it to clock a new

chip have more cache and extra instruction sets.

Q9550 @ Q9450. Ran Orthos with 1.07v with a PA120.1 passive. Can you do that with the Q6600?
That's quite impressive. Looks like I will be buying one . . . :D

A while ago I did a few low voltages tests on my Q6600 G0 just out of interest. Jotted them down, think they’re pretty comparable :)

At the stock speed of 2.4ghz prime stable...

BIOS: 1.075v
CPU-Z load: 1.031v

At 3Ghz prime stable.....

BIOS: 1.175v
CPU-Z load: 1.136v

At 3.6Ghz prime stable.....

BIOS: 1.350v
CPU-Z load: 1.288v

So, yup I think a low vid Q6600 G0 like mine could do that :D

I will defo give the Q9450 a go but wont sell my q6600 not until the new quad proves itself, be nice with one of those x48 chipset mobos when they turn up :)

Be prepared for loss on your Q6600

Yeah i think second hand market will get flooded soon , how much do you recon it will fetch say a week or two after the new ones are here?
for a reatail version, fan not used and a reasonable clocker?

I will put my neck on the line & say about £100 ;)

depends tho doesn't it, supply/demand etc.

but yeah, i shall have £100 waiting for a secondhand quad, my media/folding rig could do with a Q6600 upgrade ;)

I'm going to wait and see how these new chips perform before throwing my money at one. If there anything like the wolfdales, ie, very hot temp readings, and not as clockable as first thought due to not like voltages over 1.45v. i'm going to pick up a Q6600 on the cheap.
