Who's happy with single gpu performance?

Just got rid of my titan xm sli due to the seemingly poor support over the last 12 months or so. Gone to titan xp and in general it's faster than the pair of previous cards combined.

I'd never go sli unless I had a w/c PC. The lack of proper support and performance increase just isn't worth the extra cost, noise and heat.

To ask the question posed in the thread title:

It depends on the settings you're after. I.e. the question is too vague.

For 1080p@60fps, it's disappointing that the good 1080p60 cards barely change in price since last gen, but the RX480/GTX970 and such are enough.

For 1440p@60fps, there's not much competition... the only real option is an old 980ti or a 1070. But either will do the job well. Some might argue a Fury(X), but the 4GB will be more limiting at 1440p, not to mention that the card still struggles in some games.

Simlarly for 1080p@120/144fps, the only sorts of options currently are either a 1080 or Titan XP for a but more grunt.

The cards for these settings are there, but there is nothing beyond that currently and besides the old 1080p60, the options are limited to Nvidia only.

Finger's crossed that AMD release powerful new GPUs that make my post out of date.

I loved my old GTX 580 SLI, at 1080p it was pretty good with whatever I threw at it although I had to tweak settings because of its pitiful 1.5Gb RAM, the muscle was ample but effectively had no stamina as such, this was exacerbated by then going triple monitor 5760x1080 which tbh it still handled very well indeed especially playing Project Cars.

I then opted for a 3Gb 780ti and the numerous stutters I got with BF4 (at 5760x1080) vanished but was still held back with the limited VRAM, for this reason I've decided not to SLI the 780ti as again I think I'd have plenty of GPU grunt but not enough VRAM to utilise it.

I'm looking to soon get a 1070 Amp Extreme with a long term intention of going SLI with that as the dual GPU grunt of SLI combined with 8Gb VRAM should give me a nice sweet spot (I hope!) :D

I have done the crossfire and sli thing for a while and went back to a single card last July and ill be sticking with a single card going forward .. performance for the gamesi play is just fine.

I'm happy with a single 980ti at 3440*1440 so can only see that continuing when I move to a 1080 or beyond.

Having been sickened by SLI performance, I sold one card and was forced into tweaking the odd setting down here and there. The difference in IQ has been too subtle to notice.

SLI is deed.

Lastime i used SLI it was 2 Voodoo cards with a cable between them.

1080 run all the games i play at 4k either maxed or with just AA off.

Ok some games drop to 45fps or so but thats on games like witcher 3 which arent twitchy shooters.

Im very happy with one GPU.

had a crossfire setup once, purchased it used and came that way, dont think it was setup properly and i had and still dont have a clue about dual graphics thats isnt dedicated working with integrated to run multiple monitors, but until i stopped pc gaming few months ago(gaming that cant be done on my laptop) i had always enjoyed single card performance.

unless i switch to a slim case and not use my pc for any gaming ever again, i will only buy a single card, if games lack dual support then no point

My 1080 is good (especially for the price i got it for..) but it still can't play everything i throw at it at a constant 60fps at WQHD at max details (Witcher 3 with everything on including hairworks and Space Hulk Deathwing as examples).

I mean even in those it only drops to the 40's minimum, but still i would still like to be locked at a constant 60fps in everything if possible.

Iam pretty happy with single GPU performance

No hoping that game companies add the necessary changes to make the game run with SLI

No need to wait for Nvidia to tweak drivers to make a game run well in SLI

Sold my msi 980 ti sli bought a zotac amp extreme 1080 and never looked back. sli for vr is bad so i'm loving the higher frame rates. running a preditor z35 ultrawide 200 hertz monitor

Its always been a bit iffy, especially in value for money terms.

Odd that they don't do dual gpu cards any more, I had a 9800gx2 way back when... which seemed fine if memory serves.

I went from
2 x GTX580 OCed
to
2 x GTX980 OCed
to
1 x 980Ti OCed

The last option gave me good performance and no faffing about with profiles etc

used to be, until yesterday, when I saw the news about the new 4k, 144hz, HDR screens. Yup, need new toys to power that up.

See that's the thing, I'm gonna miss out on some amazing monitors. But then by the time they get to a sensible price for me, then they should have single cards that can run these monitors.
