Who's happy with single gpu performance?

random apparent dx12 sli image

One game, that got the patch recently, after I finished it already with normal SLI and DX11. :/

Do you have similar sources to the other DX12 games bar Ashes that have multi GPU support currently?

As I'll stand be everything I said, and even quote the rest of what I wrote for you.

I'll happily stick with a single GPU in the future, as my experience with SLI, and even Crossfire in the past was nothing but hassle; despite at its best giving higher fps.

and the drivers were riddled with bugs, and stuttery gameplay.

You need only search my name in the NVIDIA driver thread for my issues; especially related to Adobe Software and crashes caused by it.

Single 980Ti and FX are essentially the same in the games I play; and in Doom, and DX12 games I play, the FX is better. Add in my FreeSync monitor and it's delight.

Easily a better experience than SLI was for me the past year; despite pushing less FPS in general.

I also sold off my 980Tis just before the 1080/70 annoucement and made back a decent amount.

In the future I'll be sticking with a singular powerful GPU, whether that's Vega or Volta; we'll see.

I have just moved \ upgraded from a very nice inno3d ichill gtx 670 accelero hybrid 4gb, to a wicked Asus GeForce GTX 1060 ROG STRIX OC gpu. the fps in the games as doubled or a lot more ! I was looking at a 1070 but my money would not allow it at this moment in time.

I built my system based around SLI.

5930k for 40 Pci-e lanes so the cards would both run at 16x speed, I chose Rampage V motherboard so there would be a full 2 slot gap between cards for cooling, and I use an FT05 case so the cards are verticality mounted using reference designs to try and push most heat out the top of the case (and to try and even out the card temperatures compared to standard horizontally mounted SLI setups). I also recently wasted money on an HB bridge but have never had microstutter with this setup.

I use a 1080p monitor but it is 120hz and I often use DSR to improve image quality.

A lot of the long term games I play use SLI so that's great (Assetto, Dirt Rally, Witcher 3, Overwatch etc) but I have to admit I'm getting pretty sick of so many big releases launching without SLI support or suffering from big glitches if you try to force it on.

Unfortunately no single GPU can currently give me the same performance as SLI on the games I play regularly so I feel like I just have to put up with the issue for now.

Single 980 is working nicely for me at the moment. I'll go for a 1080Ti if they release one, otherwise it's probably 1180 for me.

I chopped in my 7950 / 280x crossfire setup and went for a single 290X Tri-X earlier this year.

Have to admit its much more stable and overall quicker in pretty much everything. Glad I did it tbh

It's just an indicator of when it's done RIGHT and not just an after-thought. It'll take a little time but I think it'll get there.

That's true, just like Oxide demonstrated with AMD+NV mGPU. Sadly it's going to take a while, and I honestly have very little faith in developers doing it right.

Just look at how Publishers messed up Deus Ex, diverting valuable time before launch to force in a micro transaction shop; instead of working on critcal bug and performance issues :(

It'll get there, but until then a single GPU still offers a much better experience; especially with adaptive sync tech; than standard driver profile reliant multi gpu tech.

DX12 is proving to be a massive step back in mGPU performance.

Where it is harder to do mGPU in DX12 game devs are not bothering for DX11 or DX12.

Visually DX12 does not look any different or better than DX11 in games so far.

Worse still performance often drops with DX12.

I was never a great fan of Mantle but it was a lot better than what I have seen of DX12.

DX12 has been full of empty promises but no real substance so far.

My brief stint at running crossfire was 10% Joy and 90% frustration/despair. I was lucky enough to return my 2x 390Xs for a Fury X and have been delighted ever since.

The best thing IMO and the only thing I miss about crossfire as how cool the 2 graphics cards looked inside the case.

Having come from AMD 290x to a TitanX at 2.1Ghz I am blown away with the performance gain...............:)

And silence at 29C max temp too so a constant solid boost. Shame my card maxes out at 2088 but at least its a constant 2088.

Currently have Titan black sli, but I'm in the early stages of building myself an itx skylake build. This means I'll be restricted to a single card. Now I'm a bit worried I'm gonna lose a lot of performance and will be playing games at medium settings on my 3440x1440 monitor.
Has anyone done anything similar and were you happy?
I do plan on upgrading the gpu aswell but not till a month or two after I finish my build.

Really you want to go top of the range to have it last a good while, At least get a 1080, A 1070 will do okay but it's already at the just enough limit for 3440x1440 in a lot of new releases so you'll be better served if you add the extra money for one of the two faster cards..

While I'm always tempted to get a second card, there are still too many issues with xfire/sli for me. I don't see it ever being as stable/reliable as a single card.

+1

To my uninformed eyes & ears, it doesn't read well when developers are now responsible for multi-gpu support in DX12?

That aside, I've recently got a decent motherboard as part of a bundle, so with the option of crossfire and now SLI as well, I could be tempted in the future. :D

I use a 1070 @ 3440x1440 and everything I've tried runs smoothly and looks good, can't really say that the 970 I had before didn't though.
