Who's in to electric RC cars?

It does sound like the cells might be faulty. I've got 4 packs that are doing the same thing because they haven't been used for a few years. It might be worth trying to find out the age of the packs you have. If they've been sitting around for ages before you bought them then it could just be that they've discharged too far.

That is right, you dont want to dischage a single cell below 0.9v really, so about 7.5v for an 8.4v pack. If the cells get down to 0.0v for any length of time they wont be a lot of good. You should be getting packs from a model shop really, at least you know what your getting.

It's certainly looking like it is the cells. I've just finished charging my original 3000mAH battery and it took just over 90 minutes at 2A, so spot on.

I thought it might have been the cells that were faulty. But it seems strange that both packs would do the same.

Even though you have replaced the connectors he should still refund, or at least partial refund. The pack must have been faulty and if both packs were then there is a good chance its not just you that has had a problem. keep an eye out on his feedback for any other comments about faulty packs.

A lot of people say that Vapex packs are decent but I did have a problem with their AA batteries. They are supposed to be 3000mah but last for less than half that of my Energizer 2300mah AA batteries. I didnt bother sending them back but I wont be buying from them again.

Ahh, a Fun Factor, had one of those, what's up with it? Won't start? Or parts missing?
Edit, got this now, very similar 1/10th IC off roader :)

Yeah that's the one... Engine is fine I think... It needs parts, quite a few I think. :( would love to get it going but really can't see it happening. Instructions are a bit iffy. May have to dig it out some day. Can't see parts being available though.

Lovely looking buggy that mate.

Just repaired my TT-01 that I got about 2/3 years ago. My son has been dying to see it working so I said I'd get it working for him which it now does :D

(Bear in mind it's my first RC car and the details on the body will be ****ed and all over the place ;))

I want turn it into a drifter though and stick a Skyline shell on it once I've got it working properly.

At the moment I haven't got enough space to play with it bar a driveway and it's incredibly grippy even though it's now only 2WD because i've removed the drive shaft. Will have a look at some tutorials on how to make it slide unless someone here wants to tell me :D

At the least, you need to make it 4wd again and get some drift tyres. If you don't want to shell out on drift tyres you can just put electrical tape around the tyres you currently have. Then, if you want to go further you can lock the rear diff with blue-tac. Even further would be buying adjustable upper arms to dial more camber in. The sky is the limit really, depends how much you want to spend......

Just made the move from NIMH to LIPO. Wow!!!!
The car wasn't particularly slow before, but now it is so much faster. The battery also lasted about 50 minutes which is such an improvement from the 10 minutes I was getting on NIMH packs.
I wasn't sure it was worth spending the money on it, but I'm 100% happy.
If anyone is wavering, just do it!!!

Just been through this thread, brings back memories.
Was never into racing, just pure bashing.

Turned out bashing was to be my undoing as that is why I quite R/C, I kpet breaking too much stuff. :D

Losi Mini-LST (leccy): Melted battery connector and destroyed both diffs.
HPi Savage X (nitro): Went through tens of spur gears, tried everything and it just ate them all. The rest of it was fine though, think I broke a suspension arm or two but thats it. Nitro is a real pain in the ass.

Finally went to a HPi Baja 5B.
Epic fun, easy to maintain and bashed fairly well.
Went through MANY shock rods and several A-arms especially at the front.
Ultimately sold it as it was costing me a fortune in spares and I couldn't find anywhere locally to bash it properly, it dwarfed my usual spot.

Which did you go for. I'm considering the move myself.

When I got back into RC I was tempted to use stick controllers as that's what I was used to, but I decided to try wheel controllers and stuck with them. You quickly become acostomed to them and a wheel is actually a much more natural way to control a car. I couldn't go back to sticks now :)

i was pretty much the same except i find the throttle control on the pistol grip controllers to be a lot more precise than sticks :)

stick controls for me are only for boats and aircraft now :)
