Lets give it up for the legends at smaller clubs.

First up - Mr Hugh "shuggie" Murray. St Mirren's midfield dynamo. He's spent his entire career at one club.

He played his first game for St Mirren in 1996, 15 years later he has played his 459th game in the recent 0-1 defeat to Hamilton, unfortunately, the 459th game was the record, taking over from Tony Fitzpatrick and shuggy managed to get crocked within ten minutes of the record breaking game!

Hugh scored the goal to keep Saints in the first division back in 1997 and became a club legend, he's been offered a new contract at the age of 32 after winning back his place in the side, something he has done when written off four or five times.

Id love to hear from fans of smaller clubs who want to big up your legends, lets hear all about him.

Mine would have be Tony Adams.

How you realise the importance of a Mr. XX club, that gives it his all on the pitch, was a natural leader, lead by example when the club is over run by 'too rich too young' saps.

He overcame problems that were rife in English football in the 90s, i.e. alcoholism and the resulting violence to win another double for the club. He's currently in some godforsaken part of the world managing a side right now though. :p

We've had far too many , I wouldnt know where to begin to pick just one. I suppose, for achievements as club player and club manager, it would be Dalglish. (though if I went with my heart it would be Grobbelaar for sheer entertainment value)

I was thinking more of teams like Bournemouth, torquay, cowdenbeath etc :P

Besides, other than Adams, Le Tissier and Charlton, the others have all had more than one club.

Aye, but neither of the guys who you picked were one club players either :p

Oh ! sorry, I didnt realise they had to be one club players too. Hmm, thats going to drastically reduce the number of players people can pick. Even the aforementioned Matt Le Tissier wasnt a one club player.

Right ok...er, in that case I cant have Dalglish or Grobbelaar, so I'll pick ....

Jamie Carragher :)

Billy Bremner made nearly 800 appearances for Leeds. Is that not enough?

He was only 1 Leeds appearance behind Jackie...

Its an impressive tally and an impressive guy, but the spirit of the thread really was for guys people hadnt heard off. I know theres a few guys at Scotland who have spent careers at one club like Ross Tokely, but I dont know many in England other than the famous guys like Le Tissier and Jamie Carragher.

Hehe...well people on here are always saying that Liverpool are a smaller club now, so we're allowed :p

The key was in the part of the post where it says "people on here" , doesnt necessarily mean that its a view I adhere to but I went with the forum sheep for the purposes of posting in the thread, like many people who simply follow the glory teams :p

Andy Liddle

1998–2004 Wigan Athletic 217 (70) Great player, help Wigan achieve a lot with his goals.

Roberto Martinez

Coming from a low Spanish league team to a Div 3 team playing in Wigan in front of 3k people, to managing the club a big ask for him to do, if he keeps win up things can only get better, hopefully

Two great players and two of the nicest footballers you will ever meet. Not like these Premiership players now with more money than sense.
