Who's your one club legend? Give it up for the little teams.

I used to watch my local non-league team, Enfield FC, a lot when I was a kid. There's undoubtedly one club legend - Andy Pape.

Played in goal between 1984 and 1999, making 579 appearances. Always used to wave back when people chanted "Andy, Andy, give us a wave" too. :p

Ryan Giggs has to be the shoe in for "one club men"

I'll go with Steve Bull, utter Wolves legend and didn't only play for Wolves but always resisted the lure of the PL big boys.

Nah, Giggs cant be the shoe in for "one club men", he is at man utd, lets face it, its considerably easier to stay at one club if that one club is winning everything, why would he want to go elsewhere after all.

Its got to be John Trollope, 770 appearances for Swindon and only Swindon, including 368 consecutive games played

We should discount his loyalty then because we're good?

Yeah nice one, I see your reasoning.

I didnt say it should be discounted, I said its easier to stay at a club which wins everything, that seems like very sensible reasoning to me. If a player is at a club which wins title after title (and assuming the club want to keep him) , it strikes me that it would be more likely for the player to want to stay there. Whereas a player at a club thats not winning stuff would be more likely to want to move, as I say, that seems like perfectly valid reasoning.

Well not really because you would have to be at the top of your game constantly to carry on playing for them.

Look at Real Madrid and Raul, one man club he was for years and years, until his form dropped and he couldn't get into the team.

Hence why I put in my post there ..

(and assuming the club want to keep him)

I never suggested he wasnt at the top of his game. I fear you are maybe seeking an argument where there isnt one.

So therefore he should get more credit for being someone who has performed throughout his career for one club. It is much harder to play for Man Utd for 12 years than it is at most other clubs.

He should certainly get plenty of credit for performing so well over the years. I never said he shouldnt.

Allow me to clarify even further... I think Giggs is definitely A shoe in for "one club men", just not necessarily THE shoe in for "one club men". That is to say that he is definitely the one club legend for Utd, just not necessarily the one club legend out of every club.

That sounds good until you take into account Wes Brown :p

Then I really don't understand what makes a 'one club man'

It seems to be that you can play for one team your whole life but if they're decent it's far to easy for them :/

A one club man, would be someone, presumably who has played at only one club. THE one club man though would presumably be the best player who has played at only one club.

Not at all, as I say, I fear you are seeking to argue when there isnt an argument.

I fear you're mistaking a discussion with an argument.

To clarify:

One man club thread

Ryan Giggs

You can't have Ryan Giggs it's been easy for him, his club wins everything

Then surely that's harder to achieve than just staying at one club being crap.

Well yes but you're arguing with me for the sake of it.

As I said, nice one :)

I fear you have mistaken me then, at no point did I say you cant have Ryan Giggs, I said that imo, you couldnt have Ryan Giggs as THE shoe in for one club men. At no point did I say you could have Ryan Giggs as A one club man.

Then I proved you wrong, I can't have Ryan Giggs as THE one club man based on the fact we have won lots :D

You're only criteria for this is that he plays for a successful club :D

And I never said you couldnt have him, just that I felt he couldnt be THE one club man. I fully agree with you that he is A one club man. :p

You haven't given me any reasons why he couldn't be THE one club man, oh you have, United are good so that discounts him :/
