Who's your one club legend? Give it up for the little teams.

Then I proved you wrong, I can't have Ryan Giggs as THE one club man based on the fact we have won lots :D

You're only criteria for this is that he plays for a successful club :D

Not sure where thats proved me wrong on anything

I simply said that I dont think Giggs could be THE one club man, ie. the best one club man ever. I still stand by that.

You haven't given me any reasons why he couldn't be THE one club man, oh you have, United are good so that discounts him :/

I gave you a reason in post #34. I said that THE would have to be the best ever one club player, I dont think Giggs is the best ever one club player.

Then offer up some kind of reason why he can't be, playing for a successful club is neither here nor there.

A one club man to me is someone who is loyal to one club, has never really wanted to go anywhere else and has stayed and done the club proud.

I can't think of many others better tbh, can you?

I could think of a few who would be candidates,

Giggs would be a candidate,

So would (imo)

Camacho
Nat Lofthouse
Tom Finney
Xavi
Casillas
Tony Adams

Theres probably more, but thats all I can think of off the top of my head. Having said that, its nigh on impossible to declare any player as THE best, as each performs a different role. I guess realistically all you could do is state one is the best as his particular position, as thats easier to compare to other players than ones performing a different function.

I would have said Gerrard but he did his damnedest to get out at one point.

Xavi, Lofthouse, Finney, Adams yeah I'll go with but if you read the title of the thread it asks for YOUR one club man, mine would be Ryan Giggs for the length of time playing and for what he's won, so in that respect he is MINE and THE one man club in my opinion, your argument that he can't be because he plays for MU is daft.

I dont think I would go with Gerrard, I've long thought that part of why he plays so well for Liverpool is because its for Liverpool. I suspect thats part of why his England performances dont seem to match up with his Liverpool performances (bit like Barnes), I've never been too sure that he would be as impressive for another club.

Its hardly daft, but I've become used to insults on this forum when someone disagrees, its simply a difference of opinion in what "THE one club man" means, for your definition it means the best at your club, by my definition it means the best at any club. A difference in definition is not daft by any means.

By your definition I could say..

The shoe in for "one club men" has got to be Jamie Carragher.

And that would be correct, by my definition that would be utterly wrong :)

That's not an insult, come on.

My definition isn't the best at the club far from it, I gave you my reasons further up maybe you should re-read it.

Actually, although it is Man Utd, I think Giggs is the epitome of a great one club legend, he could have gone and taken bigger bucks elsewhere (lets face it, quite a few do leave Utd for that reason, they are notorious for not being the best payers), but to do it for a full twenty years is pretty staggering when you think about it, to still be a regular in a team that has been the best team for that long is amazing.

I think this is where you're getting confused, I don't mean better as in ability, I mean better as in a better example.

Again it comes down to definitions, saying that what I am saying is daft, is an insult in my books. Though admittedly I have a much lower tolerance for people than most, so its probably considered fine by most.

Thats not your definition? So you dont think Giggs is the best one club man at Utd? I thought that was exactly what you were saying? Maybe I misread again though.

Giggs has definitely been an outstanding example. Never seen him in the papers for staggering out of a club smashed out of his face, never see him in the media with bimbos on each arm and so on. I think he has been an incredible ambassador for the sport and evidence that not every footballer has to adhere to the stereotype.

Yes you have misread.

Please re-read the thread and then come back to me once you have realised what I'm trying to say.

Again you have got it wrong!!!!!!!!

I don't mean what an upstanding individual he is!!!!!!!!!!!!

I mean a better example of someone who has stayed with one club their entire (and in Giggsy's case drawn out) career!

I still dont follow then, a better example by what criteria?

I assumed you meant by his attitude and so forth, which is why I posted that. But if you dont mean by attitude, and you dont mean by ability, which criteria are you using when you say example?

Who exactly is it that you think is a better one club man at utd than Giggs, maybe that would help to clear things up for me.
