SLI ain't a thing no more bud.
I know. What i meant is I sold my 4090 3 weeks ago but would happily buy another when back in the UK if the 50 series are crazy priced and there are more 4090's on the second hand market.

Haha. Thought as much, but that was not funny so went with an alternative assumption :p

As always with Nvidia they'll artifically limit the quantities needed for the 90, and after that first small wave of cards prices will rocket and they'll be pushing the (plentiful) 5080 for all it's worth ;)

Prepare thyselves...
Does Nvidia actually earn more when prices go up? They sell to partners at a certain price, and the FE prices don’t change with availability, so I imagine it’s the partners and retailers being the real scammers in terms of margin.

Nah, it's all about the distribution chain and shortages with price hiking along the way. I'm sure OcUK don't even charge any more in terms of %, it's a pretty flat rate from this retailer. Just all gets squeezed :(

Should imagine the majority of the AiB's will be selling in bulk to Pro buyers/SI's too as they'll pay a fair bit more. Below the 5090 I can't really see an issue though.

I don't know its a lot of money and i already get 4k 60fps in every game with my 4090 so what would i actually gain with a 5090 i am happy with my 60 frames and no games coming out next year will be too much for the 4090 either as most are console ports so if i did buy one i would get massive buyers remorse.

Can’t be worse than the 3000 series. Hopefully there’s enough production to put off scalpers and keep prices relatively stable. Personally, I’ll probably only buy a couple months after launch - no point overpaying.

*looks at how the 9800X3D launch went, and it's current asking price*

Yeah...

Yeah...
It's all still a bit of a dumpster fire, but at least they aren't taking pre-orders that only get fulfilled a year later, if ever.

But it's also why I won't pre-order, buy at inflated launch prices, or entertain scalpers. People reach for the Vaseline far too quickly these days - let them buy you dinner first.

Crack open the Liquid Silk

Since (at least)Turing but more exposed with Ampere, AIBs release non OC models at the 'review price' in low stock no's and are discontinued instantly when they run out.

Then 'different' versions are released with new suffixes and +15 on the core-at a higher price.

No.

I bought a 7900XT only last year.

I don't like incremental upgrades and generally wait until i get 4/5x times the performance of my current GPU before upgrading it.

My next purchase will probably be 2nd/3rd gen uDNA or even Valve's own Steam Machine (depending on performance) if rumours turn out to be true.

4-5 times? That is probably a decade away at a decent price.

I am planning to upgrade to a 5090 from a 4090, but it's massively price dependent. I had around £2000 in my head for a 5090, if it exceeds that by a huge amount, then I'm out.
If one is to trust X, Chinese retailers posted prices - according to them 5090 will be around 50% more expensive than 4090 was on lunch, and 5080 just about 5% more expensive. Still, big rumour, might not be true at all. If it is, though, it's clear xx90 series is aimed at prosumers and whale enthusiasts, who will pay top dollar for the best stuff. For gamers it's xx80 and below, which more reflect gaming market pricing, though still too expensive and still going up and not down. Or in other words, if you meant £2k added to what you will get from selling 4090, you might about make it. ;)

If the price leaks are real (I generally don't believe price leaks for GPUs) then that confirms that stagnation has now infected every tier of GPUs, not just the eternal RX480 period, essentially giving you almost nothing extra gen on gen. Probably why they're trying to push "AI" BS so hard, they can't (don't want to?) do anything else.

Only thing left is to buy a GPU with a long warranty & wait for software to start catching up, there's no real movement left from the hardware.

yeah mine versus flagship
I know it's an easy to use website but the owner HATES AMD with passion (just read any of their x3D chips description, it's full cringe craziness) and not only constantly sabotages all AMD results but also rants in blog posts like mentally ill person. In short words - advise is to just avoid it for your own sanity. :)

This is 100% consistent (no real movement left from the hardware) with what Nvidia CEO repeats in interviews for a while now. But his solution to hardware stagnation is AI, apparently. I can only expect them to find any kind of rubbish excuse to lock it down from older series (even though all of them have Tensor cores for AI - more than they ever needed) just to force people to upgrade again.

Sitting on the fence my aim is a 5080 or the new AMD one whatever its called....

But now the rumours are looking worse and worse, with the 5080 being even more expensive, and the AMD card perming lower than the GRE.. in all honesty I suspect ill end up getting a 7900xtx if they drop to £600 at this rate.

I'm hoping the 5080 will be around the £1000 mark and they stick to the price of the 4080super. (I'm a dreamer I know)

AMD's plan (that they talk about openly) is to conquer low and mid market as that's where the most monies sit. And since in that range fancy RT (not to even mention PT) is a luxury that doesn't work well on most GPUs, they can focus mostly on raster, vRAM, pricing, power use etc. And get competitive GPU. All the high-end ones are for NVIDIA to charge as much as they want for, but it seems most people won't care, as that's a very small cut of the gaming pie as is anyway. Though, as far as I've heard from Sony and AMD's talks about new fancy RT processing, AI etc. - bigger changes we can expect in next GPUs, after the coming 9000 series. 9k one will likely be just incremental update focused on cost cutting to be competitive, not much new in hardware sans typical incremental speed-ups.

I highly doubt it and so far all the leaks and rumours suggest it will be more expensive than that. Especially after incoming Trump's tariffs on China import that the rest of the West will likely follow with price hikes. Though, NVIDIA is free to change their pricing till the very last minute if they so desire, so we'll see.
