It will probably be a 5080 (or 5080Ti) for me. I just couldnt justify ~£2k for a gpu at 1440p UW and have no interest in going 4k just yet. My 3080Ti is doing the job in most games, so not in any rush right now.

Mhm, that's not too old. Coil whine is a high frequency sound and as humans age their hearing deteriorates and it's the high frequency you lose first, so it's possible to not hear coil whine if one has already lost some of their hearing
I've just checked some YouTube videos and I definitely haven't heard that sound from my PC before thankfully.

Maybe.

I want something around 4070 power, 12GB vram and a decent ai upscaler (like it or not devs are using as a crutch, even at 1080p games are saying dlss/fsr) for a decent price. If that's Nvidia, then I'll buy, if it's AMD, then I'll go back over there.

I buy every gens top GPU. I'm poor but my Wife is rich as hell and buys me one whenever they come out.

Nah not really but she just went from poor to rich with one promotion and I'm likely to get a 5090 off her.

I would highly recommend buying a 5090 and getting the most out of it before your close vision eye sight starts to decline which happens to many people in their mid 40's
That as long you no wear glasses already

At what age does vision start to decline?

Beginning in the early to mid-40s, many adults may start to have problems seeing clearly at close distances,
especially when reading and working on the computer. This is among the most common problems adults develop between ages 41 to 60.

we dont know what the price performance is yet, that is all that matters you can scrape the PR and marketing gumpf off and lets get down to hard rasterisation numbers.
I'm pleased to see leaks talking about larger die sizes and DDR7 but at what cost is my question particularly as we don't have a major die node shrink this gen, so I'm very focused on the price tag cos I predict its going to be very high with pathetic gains.... I could be wrong but that is where my head is at

I have to say I’m tempted, but I don’t 4k game and have a 4080Ti super so probably won’t unless Nvidia surprise us all and release them at lower prices. I want a card that can drive a 59” super ultra wide without any issues whatsoever but don’t think the price of a 5 series will justify it.

I voted NO

I may change my mind at some point but i don't own even game at the moment that needs anything faster then my 4090
But i know this could change very quickly as i remember when i bought my 2080ti it was far to powerful and felt like i wasted a load of money, But it changed very quickly to not really being powerful enough with new game releases

Does anyone know if OCUK will be giving priority to those buying whole systems rather than just the GPU when these cards release as I recall some vendors did that when the 4000 series launched?

I do know that SI have a separate allocation of cards different to that of normal component sales, so in a sense then yes they get their own batches of cards.

Just out of curiosity, what we do we all do for a living? Me personally I’m an account manager not a bad wage but I still couldn’t justify £2+k on a GPU alone.. partially because I don’t get time to game as much these days but even if I did I’d rather get a 4090 for less than £1k (which they will be) and go on a nice holiday with th

I work in a restaurant in the kitchen. I kinda stumbled into it by accident as I quit my previous job and needed a temporary interim job for 6 months while I was looking. That was 15 years ago...DoH!

you are right think I have had 10% increase since covid

The thing that strikes me is the elitist attitude of people the constant drone about rtx4090 and 9800x3d when in reality a very small minority own them

its not that long ago the most I would pay was £150-200 tops
I read your post with great interest. I can't speak for anyone else but whether I had a 10 year old setup or AMD/Nvidia latest and greatest I just love talking shop. And I would treat any person who shared the same passion and interest as me whether they had a £500 or a £5000 setup with the same decorum of respect.

If you know the amount of people who own stuff like the 4090 and 9800x3d is marginal in the whole scope of pc gaming/ownership what they own or do not own is not really your concern or what they say just enjoy your setup for what it is.

And if you play league of legends you will notice that I suck regardless of what setup I own :p

I am 51 and I can assure while I wish your above statement was true every strix I have ever owned has had coil whine same as MSI suprim X.

I’m going to just wait and see as this time around there might not be a shortage of cards and maybe hence prices won’t be inflated.

Still I am sure with 2000 cuda (if true) cores the 5090 should be at least 25% faster than the 4090.
