This is quite disappointing, even more confused now where to jump to from a 3080.
possibly Rx 9070XT if the leaks turn out to be true in regards to performance and price.

Does look good, will have to see the price I guess.possibly Rx 9070XT if the leaks turn out to be true in regards to performance and price.

What's weighing on my mind now is if a 4000 card can be had for cheaper and with some warranty left (2nd hand) or whether it's worth just paying for a 5080.The 5080 is still much faster than the 3080
It's pretty clear that rtx5000 is not for rtx4000 owners, it's for rtx3000 owners to upgrade to
The prices must adjust in several months time if Nvidia do indeed fasttrack the RTX 60 series as rumoured. Imagine buying a 4 figure 50 series now and then in a year or less catching wind of 60 series coming out soon lol.
There's a reason they stopped production of these 4000 series cards months ago, to not have issues selling them after 5k release. Might be harder to buy, but some shops might still have it and try to sell quick and cheaper before new ones arrive. What's weighing on my mind now is if a 4000 card can be had for cheaper and with some warranty left (2nd hand) or whether it's worth just paying for a 5080.
I suspect 4080 Super will no longer be available for sale?
Problem is that their CEO likes to repeat GPUs can't be made faster, only AI can save us. Which means their plan seems to be to just speed up AI, but that's just not being used in games at all currently and likely won't be for years. We really don't need faster AI card, we need faster RT cards - AMD with Sony talked about their plans to speed things up considerably in the future, NVIDIA just mumbles about AI.The prices must adjust in several months time if Nvidia do indeed fasttrack the RTX 60 series as rumoured. I do recall NVIDIA mumbling something about speeding GPU design to have yearly releases instead of 2+ years like they had for a while now. However, not sure what their plans are to speed things up in RT aside just "MOAR AI!", which doesn't sound like a sensible plan... But maybe that's all they have so far?I can’t imagine the 6000 series coming out any sooner than late 2026 (i.e. winter release). What’s behind that rumour?
this is such a potential win for AMD, I hope their marketing department realises and gets the price right. If 5080 is 15% faster than a 4080 and 9070xt is as fast as a 4080 or little faster then I can 9070xt selling like hot cakes if priced for £550-£650 range. Everything is in the air till we get reviews but this might not be total loss for AMD, they might have a total winner and force Nvidia to drop prices.
Nvidia have dropped the ball if those leaks are correct, cant see many 4090 owners selling up and upgrading not for 30% performance and lots of fake frames for £2000. But AI bots will swallow up every 5090 withing sight for that 32GB, could be totally wrong however, nothing follows logic anymore.
0.5% chance i'm afraid, and that's on a good day.Yep, all AMD need to do... is not be AMD.
The main person manging that left and got replaced a while ago, hence the whole pivot to mid market instead of high-end, and lower prices, just to regain market share. I am of positive outlook on it currently. However, one has to be reasonable and not expect 4080 performance for £300 - that's would be just silly thinking.0.5% chance i'm afraid, and that's on a good day.
the problem is that market can't be won like this, if AMD release a product of similar performance but much cheaper to gain market share then Nvidia will just drop price lower and lower till they gain back market share. They can play this game much better than AMD ever can, they can afford to absorb losses better because of their dominant position in the market. AMD needs to match Nvidia features and market them better, like new FSR4 looks really good and RDNA look like a power efficient design but nobody even knows, obviously need numbers to confirm. They messed up their ces debut and they suck at pricing things out the gate. The main person manging that left and got replaced a while ago, hence the whole pivot to mid market instead of high-end, and lower prices, just to regain market share. But market will love it, this is exactly what we call competition. Let's all hope this is exactly what happens! But they won't, as NVIDIA doesn't feel threatened by AMD at all, hence won't drop prices even if AMD will be given away for pennies.the problem is that market can't be won like this, if AMD release a product of similar performance but much cheaper to gain market share then Nvidia will just drop price lower and lower till they gain back market share.
And this is where you're wrong - dumping is illegal, so they simply can't have losses like this or they'll be sued to oblivion. It's illegal exactly for stated by you reasons. They'd have to come up with a cheaper design that cost less in manufacturing and sell it still above cost. Their shareholders and board wouldn't like it - it's all about quarterly reports these days, not long term thinking anymore. They can play this game much better than AMD ever can, they can afford to absorb losses better because of their dominant position in the market.
I am not convinced they messed up CES that much, they got too little time assigned and I understand that. They should've communicated it better beforehand, that was the mess up. They already claim proper event will happen soon, also a bunch of retailers in Europe already posted evidence they have new cards in stock already. So it's not that cards are delayed in production or AMD is making last minute changes here - their reasons sound much more plausible. Pricing is another matter, it's not been finalised yet, likely.AMD needs to match Nvidia features and market them better, like new FSR4 looks really good and RDNA look like a power efficient design but nobody even knows, obviously need numbers to confirm. Why are so many basing their decision on leaks? Surely wait for reviews and benchmarks? Maybe I'm being too fussy.
