coz it always costs 10x what it shouldWhat is it with this country being almost allergic to building new infrastructure.

Given the current government propensity for wasting money (looking at all those dodgy covid contracts) when their mates benefit one can only deduce that the Tories have no friends who make high speed railways or the margins aren't good enough to make being billions over budget worth it for their own pocketsAnd thats what HS2 is, a waste of money.
The law-abiding …
Hard working …
Common sense majority.
Against the few …
the privileged woke minority …
… with their luxury beliefs …
… who wield influence out of all proportion to their numbers.
The British people have no enthusiasm for Keir Starmer.
They know that he believes in nothing …
That he will say anything to anyone … And then change his mind at the first sign of trouble.
Keir Starmer lacks the force of personality to lead this country effectively.
Imagine what would happen if he became prime minister.
Luxury beliefs would reign supreme.
Britain would go properly woke
The UK *is* a joke. A very bad joke. The UK looks like a joke, can't do Heathrow runway, nor nuclear projects, now a rail project is getting canned... yet we want to consider ourselves an infrastructure powerhouse of Europe!? Pah! They're on another planet. We look pathetic to the rest of the world.
Instead of the vanity project of having the fastest trains in Europe of 400km/h, we should have stuck to 300km/h like HS1, and therefore we'd have the tried and tested experience, just needs a bit more modernising, and we'd have been able to take it to the north and scotland. In fact they should have started at Manchester and moved towards Leeds and Birmingham.
Our current fastest trains that go N/S are around 200km/h - so already 300km/h would have been an improvement.
It's not in his nature to do anything proactive, he's too scared to take any form of stance for anything because he thinks he can cater to both the Left & the Right by sitting on the fence for everythinghe's evidently not doing anything proactive.
There's no point in Starmer having any kind of policy or political compass - when the wind changes direction he'll U-turn to wherever it's blowing him that day. It's not in his nature to do anything proactive, he's too scared to take any form of stance for anything because he thinks he can cater to both the Left & the Right by sitting on the fence for everything
We need to fix our politics before any kind of large-scale infrastructure project can succeed. For months it's been 'HS2 should be scrapped blah blah blah' and now when they do scrap it it's 'HS2 shouldn't be scrapped blah blah blah'..
Pathetic.
What are you actually complaining about here? Are you annoyed that HS2 being cancelled is big news, or are you under the impression that people who disagree with the scrapping wanted this to happen? For months it's been 'HS2 should be scrapped blah blah blah' and now when they do scrap it it's 'HS2 shouldn't be scrapped blah blah blah'..
Pathetic.
anyone would think there are different people complaining and we are not some hive mind.... who knew? For months it's been 'HS2 should be scrapped blah blah blah' and now when they do scrap it it's 'HS2 shouldn't be scrapped blah blah blah'..

Or is this one of those "I'm allowed to complain about this thing endlessly, but once a decision has been made that I agree with anyone who complains about that is a sore loser" type situations?
i dont vocally support shipping Asylum seekers to other countries either................ but that does not mean i would be happy if half way through their flight to Rwanda they changed their mind and kicked them all out of the plane mid flight.I'm complaining that nobody has been vocally supporting HS2 for ages now so why all the froth when it finally gets scrapped?

I mean some people have, but it's not really been relevant for some time because the issue was decided and HS2 was going to be built to Manchester. You being annoyed that lots of people are now generating 'froth' about the cancellation just makes zero sense, because it's actually quite a big news story so obviously people will have opinions on it.I'm complaining that nobody has been vocally supporting HS2 for ages now so why all the froth when it finally gets scrapped?

Idk when the last time you vocally expressed affection for your left shoe was but you'd still be pretty annoyed if someone stole it, right?
People filibustered and tried their best to frustrate HS2 from the very get go. Some even complain now because it is not happening. Can’t win.
I never really agreed with the cost / benefits of HS2 and think that money could have been put to better use elsewhere but they have already destroyed large areas of the countryside around here so they better finish it or at least put it right.
Listening to the radio yesterday the stories of waste and profiteering from HS2 were crazy. Paying over market price for materials and transport, the project was bleeding money.
